Welcome to the Circus; I Hope You Enjoy the Show
This image from a story in the Dallas-Forth Worth Star-Telegram kind of sums the whole thing up, doesn't it?
Two stage-managed anti-war protestors. Dozens of people standing behind them that seem to be made up primarily of spectators and newspeople, gazing upon them like animals in the zoo.
Pro-American protestor Gregg Garvey of Keystone, Fla., whose son Justin was killed in Iraq, may have described the fawning media attention of "Mother Sheehan" best:
"I just want to know whether they're going to crown her the homecoming queen."
Indeed. Perhap he should ask the caterers.
Be sure not to miss the road show when they go on tour.
Kind of reminds me of the picture of Bill Clinton on the beach...
The two ladies may be legitimately grieving, and if so, I'm very sorry for their loss. If on the other hand they've staged the moment for the cameras, then they only serve to dishonor the life and memory of their lost loved one.
Posted by: John Yetter, CW5, USA (Retired) at August 26, 2005 07:16 AMYou bring up a good point: Is this a photo op, or real grieving? Could it be both? I can't read the mind of Cindy Sheehan, but lets look at the evidence provided.
She is kneeling behind the wooden cross she planted with her son's name on it. Think about that for a second.
Now, would most people tend to face the front or back of a memorial? Do you remember your lost ones in a cemetery while standing behind the headstone, or facing it? The other person in this photo acts more like you would expect, kneeling while facing the cross she is mourning over.
Cindy Sheehan does not show this behavior. She shows the behavior of someone who is media savvy enough to know what makes a good picture, but not quite rational enough to know that she is dramatically over-selling it. I know she’s grieving a dead child, but pardon me if I think she might have other motives in mind.
A girl’s gotta eat, after all, especially when her antics have led to a lost job, a pending divorce, and estrangement from most of her living relatives, including her living son Andy, who asked her to call off her protest weeks ago after she guilted him out of following Casey into the military as he wanted, $170,000 in donations to her cause probably goes a long way to easing her discomfort.

Consider also the timing of her dare to the IRS of getting her to pay taxes since "George Bush killed [her] son". In view of the Gold Star Families for Peace (GSFP) as a filed 501C3 non-profit organization and this influx of monies, could she now be playing this up for a for profit endeavor while trying to "scare" any critical investigation away from the disbursements of that money? Pretty cynical, I know, but desperate times often call for desperate measures. Maybe it's all on the up-n-up, but Air America is chiming in too. Perhaps they are giving her financing tips.
Tax Information for Charitable Organizations: Exemption Requirements
A brief description of the requirements for exemption under IRC Section 501(c)(3).
Why would "pro-American" protesters be criticizing Cindy Sheehan?
People who support America agree with Cindy Sheehan. Those who want our country to be destroyed in a flood of debt, death, and al aqeda attacks, support George W. Bush.

Actually, Cindy and other members of Camp Casey were pissed off at the media for trampling all over the crosses just to get a photo of Cindy.
They have little control over what the media is doing there.
Here's a great photo of the supposedly "disrespectful" memorial Ciondy and the OTHER Gold star families and veterans with her set up.

This is what the pro-Bush people are attacking and criticizing.
The people who are dishonoring our country are not Ciondy Sheehan and the other military families and veterans waiting for the President to epxlain why we are there. It is the blind followers of Bush who are dishonoring our country.

You advocate turning tail and running from Iraq. You would ignore the fact that Osama bin Laden specifically cited Clinton's headlong retreat from Somalia as his inspiration for terrors attacks culminating in 9/11/01. Duplicating the exact same actions (of Clinton) and expecting a different result (a decrease in attacks, as opposed to proven and specific increases cited by no less than Osama bin Laden himself) is the very definition of insanity.
Thanks for proving yet again that "liberalism is a persistent vegetative state" is far more than a just a simple tagline.
