Disaster Plan (Bumped)

According to Fox News, New Orleans has begun a hurricane evacuation drill.

So far, I'm not that impressed.

4/24 Update (via Drudge): and it seems that things are even worst than first thought. A mock evacuation was cancelled because no one could figure out who was responsible for evacuating FEMA's largest trailer park in Louisiana.

And here's the really bad news (my bold):

Last year, as Hurricane Katrina approached, thousands of New Orleans' poor were left behind because they had no transportation, could not afford to leave or did not know where to go. The Louisiana Superdome and the convention center became shelters of last resort where thousands sweltered for days, suffering through shortages of food and water.

Mayor Ray Nagin has said there will be no shelters in the city this time.

The authorities can't figure out how to evacuate you, and there will be no central shelters to retreat to.

Sleep tight, New Orleans.

I don't know...it looks like a major improvement over what they had before...

I am sure with the reelection of Nagan the evacuation has already started. The Feds should do everyone a favor and use the place as a landfill.

As long as they keep giving us money for doing nothing, we'll keep re-electing them. This probably goes to show the intellect of the majority of the voters in New Orleans. They just don't get it. If you aren't clever enough to help yourself, how can anyone else do it for you?

Wow! The German submarines aren't what they used to be...

This time last year the city of NO had a population of about 480,000. This year it is around 250,000 (+ -)? Another cat 4 hurricane could make it into a town.

Did someone steal the superdome? Has it vanished into thin air? Or has Ray just been hitting the crack pipe?

For all the grief that Mississippi recieves for being at the bottom in education, at least we elect officials who have sense.

Here in Mississippi, it's not a question of who is responsible for evacuating the FEMA trailer parks, 30,000+ FEMA trailers and counting. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency already has plans in place to evacuate those parks, with get this, school buses!

They realize that those who have lost everything, will not have the means to evacuate this time. Many have lost cars, homes, jobs, and loved ones.

Our governor, city officials, and county officials for the past month have been urging all of us along the Mississippi Gulf Coast to start preparing now.

New shelters are being readied to replace those that were damaged during Katrina. Some will allow animals for the first time.

We are getting ready and finalizing plans. Our officials have learned from Katrina. There will be mistakes made with all these new plans. But at least they are in place and ready to be implemented.

Speaking of Mayor Nagin, since when do people get bussed from other states to vote? Whatever happened to vote by mail? And weren't a lot of the folks that were relocated to Texas, going to stay there? Or do they have dual citizenship? I mean...dual stateship? Who picked up the tab for the ride into New Orleans? And one last thing...I guess it's a pretty sure shot for Nagin to become Mayor again when all of the folks were bussed in to "vote"....let me see, if I recollect when Katrina hit...wasn't Nagin seen high tailing it for higher ground?

The really sad thing here is that Nagin was the most qualified guy in this election.

The other POS was a corrupt to the bone good old boy. Ray you see is mearly an incompetent -- an affliction that can be overcome with time and effort. Major corruption however is an incurable "core value" with those who practice it.
