Ammo or Alcohol: Election Results

I just rolled in after 12 hours in the car, 9 1/2 behind the wheel. My eyes are glazed and I don't know if I'll have a lot to add to election coverage, but if anything crops up, it will go here.

As for the "ammo or alcohol" crack, that's merely based upon reactions I've heard predicted from the right and left. Conservatives seem to be content to drown their sorrows in the event of an Obama victory, where some nutty liberals have claimed that there will be riots, and that "blood will run in the streets" if Obama's coronation is thwarted by a McCain victory.

Update: Close to home, Kay Hagan defeated Elizabeth Dole in the NC Senate race, according to Fox News. I find it very difficult to feel much sympathy for Dole. She wasn't much to remember.

Update: McCain's dreams of a PA upset seem to be over; just about everyone is calling Pennsylvania for Obama. Clinton-supporting PUMAs appear to have been all growl, no bite.

Update: If the polls are correct in NC and Ohio, and both states go Obama with over 50%, then I think this election is pretty much over.

Update: Ohio goes for Obama, and the math seems to indicate that McCain can't hit the magic number of 270 electoral votes without a major surprise. Congratulations seem to be in order for Barack Obama.

Update: It's over, folks. Please pray for President-Elect Obama, and that he makes the right decisions while in office.

I'm just looking at blogs now... feeling sick about the early returns and almost regretting that I gave up alcohol sixteen years ago. :(

Posted by: Hermit at November 4, 2008 08:40 PM

please add to the election coverage, I need more lulz!

Posted by: blackfrancis789 at November 4, 2008 08:48 PM

Hermit, something that works almost as good is Chick-Fil-A french fries. Drown your sorrows in some crunchy waffle goodness. In case we're wrong and McCain kicks unexpected butt, you'll still need some munchies to watch the liberal illuminati have their looting spree on TV.

Posted by: jeanedcrusader at November 4, 2008 09:03 PM

All - lets actually wait until we actually see the votes. Calling PA without a single vote being counted? What the heck is that about?

Posted by: BRD at November 4, 2008 09:14 PM

At work, I'm surrounded by Obamaniacs.... but I guess that's the norm for most large school districts. When I left work today, my boss asked what I'd be doing tomorrow on my day off. I told her it depended upon the outcome of the election... either celebrating or going into mourning. She said I should be prepared to wear black until at least Friday. I told her no, I'd be wearing black for the next four years.

I'm hanging in there, hoping these early predictions are wrong. No french fries, though... I made some fried chicken instead. :)

Posted by: Hermit at November 4, 2008 09:32 PM

well, if obama wins lets not be assholes about it like the liberals would be if mccain wins. No matter how much we disagree the president will have been picked by the people, we do live in a democracy after all

Posted by: MAModerate at November 4, 2008 09:34 PM

But if Obama wins, we will only be living in a democracy until January 20.

Posted by: Trish at November 4, 2008 10:25 PM

Be careful what you wish for; you may get it.

The hordes of Obamamaniacs are about to learn the wisdom of that phrase.

Posted by: C-C-G at November 4, 2008 10:42 PM

So when do we get to riot, burn busses, torch police cars, throw rocks and blow up things? What's that? Only the left can use Bill Ayers tactics? Oh... right. Because we all have to go to work tomorrow to earn money to be given to those who empowered Obama.

Yes, I won't riot. But I will strike. Countdown begins now...

C-C-G,

Something we can agree on. The next few years are going to be hard. Let's hope we can work past our divisions and join together as Americans.

As Churchill said, democracy is a terrible way to run a government, but it's a heck of a lot better than whatever's in second place.

Have a drink and put on the Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want." That's what sustains me in tough elections.

George W. Bush is the last President of the United States of America.

What Obama will create is a crime against humanity.

Posted by: Trish at November 4, 2008 11:20 PM

Pardon me for being different -- Obama will never be my president, not now, not ever. My maternal grandparents people were butchered by the same Stalinist goons that are now voting for Obama (Ayers, Dohrn, Klonsky, etc.). Count me in the incorrigible opposition that seeks to see this corrupt Chicago turd ripped to shreds in the next four years.

"Congratulations seem to be in order for Barack Obama... Please pray for President-Elect Obama..."

CY,

I grew up the liberal kid in rural Alabama and when I read your blog I hear the guys that used to kick my ass. I've done my darndest to give you a hard time over the years. I'm humbled now to realize that you're a better man than I. I couldn't grit my teeth hard enough to say about McCain what you said just now.

I sincerely hope the next administration is a pleasant surprise for you. Who knows, maybe by 2012 you'll see liberalism as merely a usually persistent vegetative state :).

My jig is up.

Over and out,
Earl/Lex Steele/Luther Tines/etc

(Incidentally, I was never 'Nunaim' and know nothing about that person.)

Posted by: Red Phantom at November 5, 2008 12:12 AM

"and that he makes the right decisions..."

CY,
I think you are tired. Though the MSM tried their best to keep it plugged it was leaking horribly between the seams and from Barack Hussien Obama's own mouth as well as from his pre election life long radical friends. We know his mindset and the lack of experience and the fact that he is just a front for something bigger. Wake up. Now lets see the outcome. The dirty ballot box stuffing tactics and blantant lies at the mic are only the beginning as to how these guys are going to operate as they set to crush the USA. What is not being talked about is his true character and ideology that he purposely hid from the public's eye. All his records, including his birth certificate. Generally the public still doesn't know who this guy is as the MSM kept him hid. All they are hyping to divert attention is that he is black. This is true but give me JC Watts instead not a radical marxist which come in all kinds of colors.
Historical election? YES but not for what they are touting. To hype color is racism but what about his heart and what he believes. They won't be slow about their agenda but I'm suspicious about the MSM continuing their propoganda machine to cover up the goverments actions. They will be hard hitting and overwhelming and subversive. This demagogue didn't run just to boast. The "Fairness Doctrine" is going to be one of the first salvo's launched against freedom of speech and I wonder if they are going to expand it somehow to the internet. CY, I think it would be great that he was just a maverick (liberal light) but wake up. America has just been highjacked. Listen to Jeremiah Wright, listen to William Ayers. This is what this this guy is. Do you think they will laugh that they pulled this off and shrugg off their marxist ideology to just play it straight for the sake of the USA which they hate? They are going to move fast or at least try to. Lord willing, we will stand up and resist peacefully and effectively. Yes CY, let's pray and be sober minded. The atheistic marxists have just taken the White House and have a majority in Congress. The agenda of "Che" has come to town and they don't like dissenters and have an un American way of dealing with them.

John McCain was gracious - even noble - in his concession speech. Sadly, I do not have his strength of character. I feel certain that Liberty received a mortal blow tonight... and Obama will never be my president Never.

Posted by: Hermit at November 5, 2008 01:43 AM

Wild. Obama hasn't done anything as president at this point, but some people won't recognize him.

So, what does that say about your own votes? Really, they only count if you win?

Posted by: dan at November 5, 2008 01:55 AM

Red Phantom was Lex Steele?

Holy Smokes. I remember him. That guy belongs in a mental hospital. He's pretending to be sane all of a sudden? I don't buy it.

Posted by: brando at November 5, 2008 02:03 AM

Clinton-supporting PUMAs appear to have been all growl, no bite.

That was clear long ago. Even the growl was Larry Johnson holding a damned big megaphone in front of a sleepy purr.

Posted by: Mike at November 5, 2008 02:54 AM

Please pray for President-Elect Obama

Never.

For the second time in my life the United States has elected a known criminal to the presidency.

He is not my president and never will be. He is vermin.

May he have many failures, no successes, and leave office in four years a broken man.

Posted by: wolfwalker at November 5, 2008 02:58 AM

I will pray that America is on the side of God, as I always have and always will, no matter who is President.

Posted by: Adriane at November 5, 2008 05:52 AM

I wish President-elect Obama all the best & pray for wisdom & good judgment on his part.

That said, the minute that man touches the military or my civil rights I will go straight from skeptical advocate to raging hellion.

But for now, he has my full support despite my suspicions as to the future.

Posted by: Slveryder at November 5, 2008 06:07 AM

Yes, pray for the President-elect, and pray for this fair country of ours - before it becomes the USSA (United Socialist States of America).

what's he gonna do ... buy up a bunch of banks and auto manufacturers ? too late for that.

Republicans have got to quit being "nice".

Dems are using negative propaganda against Rs everyday, they need to turn the tables.

Every time an R is interviewed they need to talk about:

* Ds culture of corruption
* Ds deceitfulness
* Ds being unethical
* Ds being power-mad
etc.

And Rs need to polish their brand and not publicly flog people like Lott and Allen for "racist" comments.

When a "macaca" incidence happens, an R politician needs to say it was an "unfortuante" word, but go directly to attacking any and all wrongs by Ds.

This is a political war, and Rs have disarmed.

Posted by: mockmook at November 5, 2008 08:45 AM

Congratulations, mockmook, you are the mirror-image of a typical HuffPo/Kos poster. They KNOW that all "Rs" are corrupt, deceitful, unethical, etc. Just like you know this about all "Ds."

...And mindlessly defending any Republican just because they have that "R" next to their name is one of the reasons they lost in '06 and '08.

Well, that, and spending like drunken sailors, snuggling up to K street, and in general acting like idiots. Why, yes, I am thinking of Ted Stevens right now...

Y'all need to cowboy up, and get over yourselves. You lost an election, not a war.

Posted by: Casey at November 5, 2008 10:07 AM

Casey's right. If you have a problem with the results of this election, get out and good riddance. The Republican Party better re-align and figure out some new ideas and approaches because demographically speaking, the next half-century doesn't look to good for it.

Posted by: Dirk Steele at November 5, 2008 10:17 AM

I agree with CY, Casey, and Dirk.

Trish, you and mockmook need to get a very strong grip on yourselves.

This country survived the Jimmy Carter administration and we will survive Obama’s. Despite his best efforts Carter didn’t destroy the American Dream. And we only had to live through double digit inflation, France-like unemployment, 1% economic growth, an energy crisis and the highest prime interest rate of any President, before or since. Carter never got a second term. Neither will Obama. The American people will realize they have been sold a pipe-dream. On the bright side - who came into office after Jimmy Carter? Maybe this dark cloud has a silver lining after all…

Posted by: Eric at November 5, 2008 10:57 AM

What this represents is a rejection of American exceptionalism by the majority of American voters. Don't be mad at Obama. Be mad at your fellow Americans. We our now, as Johnny Rotten once said regarding the UK, "just another country, another place of tenancy". No better than France or Bangladesh. At least so the majority of Americans believe.

"If you have a problem with the results of this election, get out and good riddance."

Whoa! That's way over the line. You're announcing that if any person doesn't like the results, then they are forced to leave the country, and you'll be glad because they're beneath you?!

Please think about this and understand. Just because your candidate won an election, doesn't mean that you can forcibly drive millions of servicemen out of their counrty. You're wrong to announce that. Police yourself, son.

Posted by: brando at November 5, 2008 05:40 PM

Mark--You bet I'm mad at them. Don't remember where I read it, but "this was an IQ test for the US and we flunked." Right.

Brando--Right again. Wasn't "America-Love it or Leave it" a phrase that drove the left into a frenzy?

Eric--Sure we survived Carter. I doubt we'll survive Obama. The America of the 1970s is not the America of the oughts. Carter (to his credit) didn't make attempts to silence his opponents even before the election. He didn't personally attack those who disagreed with him. And he didn't take away our means of defending ourselves.
Barack Obama is not Jimmy Carter.
