We Have Met the Enemy, and He is Us

Jane Hamsher & Friends suddenly discovered that blindly electing a bunch of corrupt big government tax-and-spend liberals who owe their allegiances to their biggest donors is a bad thing.

Who knew?

Reading the comment thread there, it doesn't seem any of those engaging in the wailing and gnashing of teeth has the self-awareness to recognize that:

  • this outcome was entirely predictable result of willingly turning a blind-eye to the fact that Democratic Party owes more to corporate donors than the Republicans, and have for quite some time
  • the liberal practice of trying to spend wads of other people's money doesn't just reach into the pockets of the opposition
  • when you elect a President based on rhetoric instead of competence, you get predictably dismal results
  • it's better not to yell "who stole our country?" when you're still wearing your mask and waving your cap gun

Hamsher now wants a Congressional inquisition to skewer several Obama administration officials (starting with Geithner and Summers), to see if they are "too closely aligned " with Wall Street.

She's too ideologically blind, of course, to see that it was the very Congress and President she championed that are at the root of the problem.

The woman is obviously an ignorant fool.

There are a lot of ignorant fools out there, but you know, maybe calling them that and saying "nanny-nanny-booboo" won't make them any more amenable to admit that they got wholly suckered and the mouthbreathing right was RIGHT about Obama. I suggest we simply welcome these idiots to THE REAL "reality based community" and invite them to tea parties.

These people were running on nothing but hate for 8 years, they'd stopped thinking and - for too long - simply swallowed everything the press told them, down to the last breadcrumb. When the press tossed Hillary for Obama, yeah! Obama! Change! Hope! They'd STOPPED THINKING for years.

Now, at least they're thinking, again.

Let's help them, not throw stones.

But to answer her question: Why stole the country?

You did, Ms Hamsher. Or, more correctly, you ceded your proprietorship when you handed over your brains and your reason to a press that never had any intention of telling you the truth.

But, more properly, the press stole your country.

They stole it when they decided the did not serve a public trust, that they were no longer in the business of reporting the news, but were vouchsafed the task of "changing" for you.

Obama is just the latest pus oozing from the infected press.

Liz

I am enjoying both the wailing and gnashing of teeth in the comments for our local (extremely liberal) fishwrap. But, as you suggest, berating them for listening to the Dem press and ceding their independent thought doesn't work very well.

Instead, I find that locating common ground and explaining the problems that inevitably occur when power becomes concentrated works better. Slamming the GOP--always fun--doesn't hurt much either.

The recrimination are to be expected. There is nothing on earth that will ever please the Left. They begin the utopian idea of perfecting society and expanding government, and end with authoritarian if not totalitarian government, impoverishment, probably mass arrests. As Camille Paglia has said, all road from Rousseau lead to Desade.

I think that had John McCain and the ultra-competent Sarah Palin been elected instead, they would have solved this ginormous clusterf*** by now.

Sorry there MacGruber, McCain would have done similar things, but with more useless stimulus and less liberal agenda. It still would do dick all except create uncertainty in the market and postpone recovery. Now, if McCain had keeled over the day after his inauguration and Palin managed to keep a clear head and ignore McCain's advisers, things might be quite different. But it didn;'t happen and would be irrelevant to discuss any details.

Shouldn't that be "that blindly electing a bunch of incompetent corrupt big government tax-and-spend liberals"

Nothing to do with any new 'directive' or 'regulation', if there were I am sure Government Liquidations LLC would have provided a direct cite.

Government Liquidations LLC is owned by Liquidity Services, Inc.

FYI,

Liquidity Services, Inc. Awarded New Surplus Contract with the U.S. Department of Defense

04 AUG 2008

WASHINGTON -- Liquidity Services, Inc. (LSI) today announced the award of its new Surplus Contract with the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service (DRMS), a field activity of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). Following a competitive offering process, on July 31, 2008 DRMS awarded LSI a contract to manage the receipt, storage, marketing and disposition of virtually all useable surplus personal property generated by DoD installations throughout the United States. The contract has a base term of three years with two one-year renewal options and LSI expects to commence operations in approximately 90 days. The new surplus contract ensures LSI will continue to serve as the primary channel for the sale of DoD useable surplus personal property in over 500 categories throughout the United States.

Under the terms of the new contract, LSI will pay DoD approximately 3.26% of the DoD's original acquisition value (OAV) for all useable surplus items referred and LSI will retain 100% of the profit while bearing its own costs for the merchandising and re-sale of these items. Payment for the property will be made in two steps in which approximately 2.26% of the OAV will be paid upfront and 1.00% will be paid 120 days after LSI's receipt of the property. DoD useable surplus property will continue to be offered for sale through LSI's online auction marketplace, www.govliquidation.com.

"Building on our experience as the exclusive contractor for the sale of DoD useable surplus property since 2001, we are excited to continue this relationship and further leverage our online sales and property domain expertise to significantly improve how DoD useable surplus property is screened and sold," said Bill Angrick, Chairman and CEO of LSI. "As an innovative solution provider, we provide the DoD with the most effective solution to dispose of DoD surplus property while protecting national security, reducing costs and providing a valuable revenue stream to the U.S. Treasury."

About Liquidity Services, Inc. (LQDT)

Liquidity Services, Inc. (NASDAQ:LQDT) and its subsidiaries enable corporations and government agencies to market and sell surplus assets and wholesale goods quickly and conveniently using online auction marketplaces and value-added services. The company is based in Washington, D.C. and has 685 employees. Additional information can be found at: www.liquidityservicesinc.com.

Checked Government Liquidations LLC webpage, spent brass has OAV of $ZERO.

Incidentally, Chairman and CEO of LSI, William Angrick, donated to Democrats in 2008.

Nonetheless, in the interest of privatization, LSI was granted a monopoly on DRMO (yeah, old school) for 3.26% of OAV. Spent brass, OAV == 0.

It is LSI's scrap, it was demil'd before they got their claws onto it.

They want, "BUYER AGREES TO ALLOW USG PERSONNEL TO WITNESS DESTRUCTION" - no problem - it is NOT going to happen. This Contractor cannot obligate the Government EVER, never mind to inspect execution to terms above/beyond those that the Gov obligated them to.

I'd call IG for fraud and point out that the OAV is much much higher.
