Video Blackout on Bin Laden Raid? Not Likely.

Is anyone buying this?

Leon Panetta, director of the CIA, revealed there was a 25 minute blackout during which the live feed from cameras mounted on the helmets of the US special forces was cut off.

A photograph released by the White House appeared to show the President and his aides in the situation room watching the action as it unfolded. In fact they had little knowledge of what was happening in the compound.

In an interview with PBS, Mr Panetta said: "Once those teams went into the compound I can tell you that there was a time period of almost 20 or 25 minutes where we really didn't know just exactly what was going on. And there were some very tense moments as we were waiting for information.

"We had some observation of the approach there, but we did not have direct flow of information as to the actual conduct of the operation itself as they were going through the compound."

The video feeds of this op were likely transmitted via a drone circling overhead, an AWACS or similar aircraft in Afghanistan and another in the Arabian Sea, and surveillance satellites overhead. The odds that feeds from 79 operators, fed through multiple uplinks, was never seen or recorded simply isn't credulous.

Further, you'll note that Panetta chose his words very carefully. They did not have direct flow of information. That indicates that there were recording of the assault recorded on the flash-memory of helmet-mounted cameras, but these are just one more set of images—along with the three or more sets of photographs of Bin Laden's body—that the "most transparent Administration in history" refuses to show the American people.

I'm no snake-eater, but I've worked in an industry that employs plenty of them. Besides being thrill-junkies and having the killer instinct, they are to a man very smart.
I would imagine they simply switched off during the raid, with a mind to not having video evidence at their trials for murder. Too many of these heroes have been prosecuted in the past for doing their job.

Minor point here, but the word is "credible," not "credulous." "Credulous" refers to a person who is gullable and is easily duped.

For example, people who voted for Obama expecting that he would really make the oceans recede are considered "credulous."

Obama's claim that he would make the oceans recede wasn't "credible."

Sorry, but the misuse of that word sets my teeth on edge and detracts from the impact of the content.

If the White House Insider is right and this was a Panetta/Clinton/Daley operation and Obama didn't even know about it until he got yanked off the golf course and into the situations room... maybe part of the operation was an expected "malfunction" of the link between the White House and the theater. So that there was no temptation for anyone to get last minute golf-shoed cold feet.
