The Incredible Insensitivity of the Vacationer-In-Chief
The narcissism of our 44th President continues unabated.
A sun-soaked relaxer-in-chief spent close to five hours at a private Edgartown beach with the first family yesterday — still with no plans to cut the presidential vacation short while other islanders heeding the threat of Hurricane Irene packed up paradise and high-tailed it to the mainland....
Vineyard hotel managers urged guests to plan their exits as soon as possible, and emergency officials told locals to stock up on four days of food and water.
The Obamas, meanwhile, enjoyed a low-key day amid the white sands and tall waves of the private Pohogonot beach. The president did convene a conference call with emergency officials for an Irene update earlier in the day.
He had no plans to leave Martha's Vineyard early — even as emergency crews mobilized around him.
As local citizens and emergency management officials work frantically to secure homes and businesses against approaching Hurricane Irene, the Obama family continues to frolic in the sun and obstruct emergency preparation efforts.
Are they completely immune to the needs of others? The longer Michelle and Barack soak up the sun, the less time the private property owner has to prepare for a storm that is described as an "extraordinary threat" to the Northeast and New England. If the Obama's do decide to leave, it will be at the last possible moment.
In doing so, they increase the danger to their drivers and Secret Service details, their jet and helicopter crews, the White House support staff that must travel with the President.
They increase the danger to local employees who must come in behind the dallying President and his $10 million wife , who must try to secure the property against gale-force winds and driving rain and storm surge, and then somehow scamper themselves to safety as Irene roars up the coast.
The lives of average Americans they put in harm's way are but an afterthought to the Michelle Antoinette and our golf-mad President.
May history remember them as the failures they are.
Update: Obama's planning to leave tonight. God forbid they give the people who must stormproof the property much daylight in which to do it.
Just an stoopid thing to write. I didn't see a mention of the large amount of time Bush was gone to his fake ranch. Seems that information might help your readers find context in your assertion. But then, you never did want your readers to have context - only your bigoted slant of an opinion.
You dislike the black POTUS - I get it. But isn't there some small responsibility to inform your readers of the big picture? I guess not...
Posted by: Jimbo at August 26, 2011 02:41 PMThis isn't about time. It's about optics. A President telling us we all need to sacrifice, and pick ourselves up by our bootstraps while he is driven around in a Canadian bus and vacationing at a place that costs $50,000 per week looks bad. Really, really bad. It looks disconnected from reality, above the commoners and snobbish.
And let's be honest - when Obama - in two years - surpassed Bush - over eight years - on the golf course, you really shouldn't be talking about time off.
Black has nothing to do with it. Only a racist would immediately assign a value to the skin color of a person instead of letting him be judged on his character and accomplishments.
Posted by: Washington Nearsider at August 26, 2011 03:33 PMIs it to much to hope for that he'll delay to long and get caught in the storm? Maybe get a dose of reality?
And Jimbo your obviously a race baiter and not a very bright one either.
Posted by: PurpleDragon at August 26, 2011 07:34 PMHey Jimbo a)Bite me for making me defend bush. I guess I am not I am trying to point out the difference
b) Bush didn't sit on his ranch and watch as a stampeed got closer and all of his neighbors worked to brace up their fences and get ready keeping the crew at his place occupied with waiting on him. And it would have been HIS property he was risking.
Given all the damage Obama has caused while on the job, I be pleased as punch if he'd stay on vacation for the duration of his term.
Posted by: Indigo Red at August 26, 2011 11:16 PMJimbo,
Show me any incident where President Bush placed lives in danger because he refused to cut a vacation short.
Posted by: Alan Kellogg at August 26, 2011 11:39 PM0bama is a self absorbed P.O.S. The sooner he is tossed onto the trash heap of history the better. The american public had a fit of stupidity when they elected this idiot. Hope we have learned our lesson
Posted by: erick1740 at August 27, 2011 05:12 AMDear Jimbo:
I can speak for Bob and me when I say that we could care less whether Barack Obama is black. He race has nothing whatever to do with our opinions of his policies and badly impaired character, a character warped by Marxist ideology.
I was certain, from the moment that Obama's election seemed inevitable, that he would cause great harm to our nation, but simultaneously felt a bit of pride that America would elect a black man. However, that pride was not pride in Mr. Obama, but in the nation he considers nothing special. America is over race. It's just not a factor anymore. I have no doubt that one day we'll have an Asian president, a Hispanic president, a female president, or any combination of heritage and gender.
No Jimbo, Bob and I--and our readers--dislike Mr. Obama's policies, and the terribly flawed man who seems bent on diminishing America and causing irreparable harm. His actions speak for themselves.
By the way, Texans have no problem calling Mr. Bush's place a ranch. I suspect we'll let them be the authorities on this.
