Bush a Uniter, not a Divider for Second SCOTUS Pick
It seems that President Bush has managed to do what many would have though was almost impossible: he achieved a near-consensus from political bloggers on both the right and left, who overwhelmingly seem to agree that Harriet Miers was an underwhelming selection to replace Sandra Day O'Connor.
Conservatives seem to think that she is poorly-qualified and lacks a sufficiently conservative background, while liberals whowould see an inherent threat to Roe with any Bush pick, can now add cronyism to their list of gripes.
Bush finally delivers on his promise of being a uniter, not a divider, just not in a way that makes anyone happy.
It would be great if the repubs voted against her in the senate. Bush is really starting to p me off with his decisions of late. This lady has Stevens written all over her.
Posted by: Kevin at October 3, 2005 01:49 PMI worked very hard in 2004 to help President Bush get reelected. I have consistently and constantly supported him since he first ran for the Presidency (and even earlier when his name was being kicked around as a potential candidate). I can no longer do so. This Supreme Court selection was just an unthinkable in the current political environment. As someone with a Political Science degree, I am appalled by this flat-footed, foolish, and frankly, idiotic, move. Bush just lost one very avid supporter. It's taken awhile to get me to this point, but I am over him. I can no longer in good faith support this man and his actions.
