Bloody Elena

Elena Kagan is making me start to wish... nah, I better not say what I think:

Before the Senate Judiciary Committee a short time ago, Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan appeared reluctant to admit that she wrote a 1996 Clinton White House memo aimed at altering a key medical group's opinion of whether partial birth abortion is medically necessary. The memo, reported yesterday by National Review, has caused a stir in conservative circles because it appeared that Kagan, then a White House policy aide, put words in the medical group's mouth in order to soften its position on the controversial procedure. But when Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch brought the subject up with Kagan, he had a hard time getting her to admit that she did, in fact, write the document in question.

"Did you write that memo?" Hatch asked.

"Senator, with respect," Kagan began, "I don't think that that's what happened — "

"Did you write that memo?"

"I'm sorry — the memo which is?"

"The memo that caused them to go back to the language of 'medically necessary,' which was the big issue to begin with — "

"Yes, well, I've seen the document — "

"But did you write it?"

"The document is certainly in my handwriting."

Kagan doesn't want to admit that she is an pro-infanticide zealot, nor that she twisted the position of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) on late-term abortion to suit her political goals.

The inherent dishonesty in her character and her blood-thirsty ideological bent proves she is in no way suited for the Supreme Court. Senate Republicans and pro-life Democrats must filibuster Kagan.

A killer's accomplice is hardly fit to be judge.

Elena Mengele Kagan

Power Line has what they describe as the "smoking gun" that should destroy Solicitor General Elena Kagan's bid for the Supreme Court, pointing to Shannen W. Coffin's explosive revelation at NRO.

While working for the Clinton Administration, Kagan committed intentional fraud, rewriting a statement from a medical organization to protect the beastly practice of partial birth abortion, a practice the medical experts said had no legitimate need.

The initial draft said that the ACOG panel "could identify no circumstances under which this procedure . . . would be the only option to save the life or preserve the health of the woman." That language horrified the rabidly pro-abortion Elena Kagan, then a deputy assistant to President Clinton for domestic policy. This is what Kagan wrote in a memo to her superiors in the Clinton White House:
Todd Stern just discovered that the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) is thinking about issuing a statement (attached) that includes the following sentence: "[A] select panel convened by ACOG could identify no circumstances under which [the partial-birth] procedure ... would be the only option to save the life or preserve the health of the woman." This, of course, would be disaster -- not the less so (in fact, the more so) because ACOG continues to oppose the legislation. It is unclear whether ACOG will issue the statement; even if it does not, there is obviously a chance that the draft will become public.
So Kagan took matters into her own hands: incredibly, she herself appears to have written the key language that eventually appeared in the ACOG report.

Kagan's radical left wing ideology dictated that she commit brazen fraud to support the revolting practice of infanticide after medical experts declared there is no medical justification for partial birth abortion.

Elena Kagan lied. She took a report from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and distorted it to say precisely the opposite of what the group concluded.

She should be on trial in front of one.

Republican and pro-life Democrat Senators have a sacred duty to filibuster Elena Kagan's nomination to the Supreme Court, and any Senator that does not standard against this monster's nomination should be targeted for replacement.

Elena Kagan is not judicial material. She's a zealot, and one utterly without morals.

Eco-Friendly Terrorist Killing

Environmentally-conscious jihadists will be thrilled to discover that the U.S. Army will now be now be shooting at them with "green" ammunition:

The Army announced today it has begun shipping its new 5.56mm cartridge, the M855A1 Enhanced Performance Round, to support warfighters in Afghanistan.

The new M855A1 round is sometimes referred to as "green ammo."

The new round replaces the current M855 5.56mm cartridge that has been used by U.S. troops since the early 1980s.

The M855A1 resulted in a number of significant enhancements not found in the current round, officials said. They explained these include improved hard-target capability, more dependable, consistent performance at all distances, improved accuracy, reduced muzzle flash and a higher velocity.

During testing, the M855A1 performed better than current 7.62mm ball ammunition against certain types of targets, blurring the performance differences that previously separated the two rounds.

The projectile incorporates these improvements without adding weight or requiring additional training.

According to Lt. Col. Jeffrey K. Woods, the program's product manager, the projectile is "the best general purpose 5.56mm round ever produced."

I can't decide... is that an oxymoron?

SCOTUS Rules for Gun Rights (Updated with Opinion)

Richard Daley and Mike Bloomberg must be sharing a stroke:

In its second major ruling on gun rights in three years, the Supreme Court Monday extended the federally protected right to keep and bear arms to all 50 states. The decision will be hailed by gun rights advocates and comes over the opposition of gun control groups, the city of Chicago and four justices.

Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the five justice majority saying "the right to keep and bear arms must be regarded as a substantive guarantee, not a prohibition that could be ignored so long as the States legislated in an evenhanded manner."

The ruling builds upon the Court's 2008 decision in D.C. v. Heller that invalidated the handgun ban in the nation's capital. More importantly, that decision held that the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms was a right the Founders specifically delegated to individuals. The justices affirmed that decision and extended its reach to the 50 states. Today's ruling also invalidates Chicago's handgun ban.

The key point:

JUSTICE ALITO delivered the opinion of the Court with respect toParts I, II–A, II–B, II–D, III–A, and III–B, concluding that the Fourteenth Amendment incorporates the Second Amendment right, recognized in Heller, to keep and bear arms for the purpose of self-defense.

Bigoted New Yorker Ron Jackson would be surprised that the leader of the Tea Party in his city (as much as the Tea Party has leaders) is black, as are some of the armed protesters we've seen. Not that reality matters. It won't be intruding into the left's hate, no matter what the occasion.

Frummage

I don't do a whole lot of "inside baseball"-type blogging anymore (I pretty much ignored Charles Johnson's returning to the liberal left and Dave Weigel's much more recent collapse at the Washington Post), but found this story from John Hawkins interesting.

Cocktail circuit Republican David Frum apparently asked to join the Blogads Conservative Blogging Hive (full disclosure: I am a member of both the conservative hive and the Military Hive on Blogads, and they both promote great stuff).

John Hawkins of Right Wing News manages the Blogads Conservative hive, and denied Frum's inclusion, since Frum seems to mainly exist to be a critic of conservatives and the conservative movement.

The real story seems not to be Frum's exclusion, but that his representative then took what John interpreted to be a threatening tone, suggesting that the exclusion was "newsworthy."

I can't read the mind of Frum's rep, and don't know if issuing a veiled threat was really his intent, but if it was, it was a entirely toothless threat. David Frum may carry some weight among dead-tree media, but his influence in the new media is low, and fading, as is his influence on new media's advertisers.

Instead of issuing threats, perhaps Frum could start his own hive of blogs. There has to be a market for his kind of writing. Disappearing creams, maybe.

Off To that Great Klavern In the Sky

Well, "in the sky" might be a little too optimistic:

Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia, the longest-serving senator in American history, died Monday at the age of 92, a spokesman for the family said.

Byrd, a Democrat who served in the U.S. Senate since 1959, had been plagued by health problems in recent years and was confined to a wheelchair. He had skipped several votes in Congress in the past months.

Jesse Jacobs, a family spokesman, said Byrd died peacefully at about 3 a.m. at Inova Hospital in Fairfax, Va.

He was the oldest member of the 111th Congress and the last Exalted Cyclops in a long and embarrassing line of "reformed" Ku Klux members in the Democratic Party.

I may have edited that last line a little bit for the sake of accuracy.

...or custard.

Vice President Joe Biden called the manager of a custard shop outside of Milwaukee, Wisc. a "smartass" after the man asked him to lower taxes. Biden made the comment after the Kopp's Frozen Custard shop manager told him that his dessert would be on the house if he lowered taxes.

"What do we owe you?" Biden is heard saying in footage captured by WISN-TV.

"Don't worry, it's on us," the manager replied. "Lower our taxes and we'll call it [the custard] even."

"Why don't you say something nice instead of being a smartass all the time," Biden said a few minutes later.

Biden had walked in to Kopp's mistakenly asking for ice cream instead of custard.

They mismanage wars, economies, and even disasters:

The Dutch know how to handle maritime emergencies. In the event of an oil spill, The Netherlands government, which owns its own ships and high-tech skimmers, gives an oil company 12 hours to demonstrate it has the spill in hand. If the company shows signs of unpreparedness, the government dispatches its own ships at the oil company's expense. "If there's a country that's experienced with building dikes and managing water, it's the Netherlands," says Geert Visser, the Dutch consul general in Houston.

In sharp contrast to Dutch preparedness before the fact and the Dutch instinct to dive into action once an emergency becomes apparent, witness the American reaction to the Dutch offer of help. The U.S. government responded with "Thanks but no thanks," remarked Visser, despite BP's desire to bring in the Dutch equipment and despite the no-lose nature of the Dutch offer --the Dutch government offered the use of its equipment at no charge. Even after the U.S. refused, the Dutch kept their vessels on standby, hoping the Americans would come round. By May 5, the U.S. had not come round. To the contrary, the U.S. had also turned down offers of help from 12 other governments, most of them with superior expertise and equipment --unlike the U.S., Europe has robust fleets of Oil Spill Response Vessels that sail circles around their make-shift U.S. counterparts.

Why does neither the U.S. government nor U.S. energy companies have on hand the cleanup technology available in Europe? Ironically, the superior European technology runs afoul of U.S. environmental rules. The voracious Dutch vessels, for example, continuously suck up vast quantities of oily water, extract most of the oil and then spit overboard vast quantities of nearly oil-free water. Nearly oil-free isn't good enough for the U.S. regulators, who have a standard of 15 parts per million -- if water isn't at least 99.9985% pure, it may not be returned to the Gulf of Mexico.

Why, why do liberals place such blind trust in legendary incompetence of government bureaucrats, instead of the ingenuity of the people?

Change? The Pending "Oilcane" Disaster

Doug Ross stares into the eye of the pending environmental disaster of an oil-fueled Gulf coast hurricane, and places the blame squarely at the feet of the incompetent spill response of the Obama Administration.

The recovery period after a hurricane can take years. It was 10 years until some communities fully recovered from Hurricane Andrew in South Florida, some never recovered at all. The New Orleans area is still putting itself back together after Katrina in 2005. The recovery period after an oil-soaked hurricane -- or what could be called an Oilicane – is impossible to forecast but it could take years and many billions of dollars. One wonders if BP has the money to survive such a unique disaster. The human and natural losses from such an event could be historic.
There's that word again: historic. Everything about this administration is historic -- and none of it in a good way.

Should, heaven forbid, the world's first Oilcane wreak havoc in the Southeast, one man will have to shoulder substantial blame. One man's legacy will be utter economic and environmental ruin. One man's unsuitability for the highest office in the land will be crystal clear even to the most obtuse observer.

I've been through a number of minor-to-moderate hurricanes, have seen trees crashing down around me on cars and buildings. When I return to my hometown of Greenville, NC to visit family, I can still see the scars from Hurricane Floyd's floodwaters.

I can't even begin to fathom the environmental disaster of a hurricane compounded by the sludge of oil. It may simply kill entire sections of the coast, rendering large areas toxic wastelands unacceptable for habitation.

Obama's Democrats own the Deepwater Horizon disaster, lock, stock and oil barrel.

That will be a comfort to no one.

Nancy Pelosi warned that if we don't continue trying to mask our current depression by spending money we don't have, then people might realize how badly they've ruined the country and toss her and other progressives off the nearest tall building.

Or something like that.

Pelosi, Reid, Obama and their leftist allies hell-bent are destroying this country. That is not up for debate. It is a quantifiable, mathematical fact.

"They Have Only Intentions of Destroying"

At Verum Serum, progressive radical Elena Herrada takes to the stage to compare Border Patrol agents to the Ku Klux Klan.

The Obama Administration apparently feels much the same way:

The Obama administration has tapped an outspoken critic of immigration enforcement on the local level to oversee and promote partnerships between federal and local officials on the issue.

Harold Hurtt, a former police chief in Houston and Phoenix, has been hired as the director for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Office of State and Local Coordination. Starting July 6, Hurtt will supervise outreach and communication between ICE, local law enforcement agencies, tribal leaders and representatives from non-governmental organizations.

"Chief Hurtt is a respected member of the law enforcement community and understands the concerns of local law enforcement leaders," said John Morton, the Homeland Security assistant secretary for ICE. "His experience and skills will be an invaluable asset to the ICEs outreach and coordination efforts."

But as a police chief, Hurtt was a supporter of "sanctuary city" policies, by which illegal immigrants who don't commit crimes can live without fear of exposure or detainment because police don't check for immigration papers.

Confirmed: Huffington Post Readers Every Bit As Buggered As You Suspected

We've long known that the community-based reality is fond of creating their own "truth" to justify their ideological beliefs, and the claim that it is raining oil in Louisiana is just the latest example of that constructed world.

The article includes video purporting to show evidence of oily rain, but what it clearly shows is an asphalt parking area where years of oil leaks from cars have left dark splotches of used oil on the ground. Being lighter than water, the oily film floats as the puddles form, just as they have everywhere automobiles have run, for decades.

See for yourself.

But that bit of reality doesn't sit well for HuffPo-ers, who responded to a poll questioning the likelihood of oily rain by declaring that it "Looks like oily rain to me!" by a whopping 47.59%. The next most popular result was "I'm skeptical" (25.02%), followed by the obviously correct answer "It's probably just dirty roads" garnering just 27.39% of the vote.

Should we be encouraged that a slim majority of HuffPo readers weren't convinced that this obvious dark fantasy isn't real, or should we be depressed that only 27.39% are grounded enough in reality to recognize a clear fake?

Really, does it make the least little bit of difference?

Nothing has changed. MoveOn.org still hates the military, and General Petraeus in particular. They still feel anger that their terrorist friends were beaten in Iraq, and they're holding out hope that the Taliban will " teach us a lesson" in Afghanistan.

They are trying to hide who they are, but it is far, far too late.

Selfless Warrior

President Obama's hand-picked general to lead the war in Afghanistan barely held ground against the Taliban, and was losing the bureaucratic battle to Obama's even more inept civilian appointees; an incompetent ambassador, a clueless national security advisor, and of course, a defeatist President. Instead of losing Afghanistan due to incompetent Democratic leadership, Gen. Stanley McCrystal fragged his civilian leadership and his career, to open the door for the next general and give him a chance to win where McCrystal was not allowed.

Into this gap steps General David Petraeus, the general who broke Sunni and Shia insurgencies in Iraq and ended the war there are clearly as any insurgency can ever be defeated.

Most will applaud General Petraeus' decision to take command in Afghanistan, as it seems logical to have the architect of one counterinsurgency success take over what appears on the surface to be a similar effort.

But what most will not realize is that General Petraeus demoted himself to lead this war. The general who led Americas' efforts in the entire region is stepping back down to take over one grinding, thankless campaign.

By doing so he risks his legacy. He risks defeat in a land where outsiders have battled and lost for a thousand years. But he knows—better than any of us—that he is the best man to lead this fight. If anyone can win this war, he can.

God be with you General, and those in your command.

Obama Threatens to Issue Blanket Amnesty Via Executive Order?

Please tell me this rumor is absurd.

Several Senators have learned of a possible plan by the Obama Administration that would provide a mass Amnesty for the nation's 11-18 million illegal aliens. Led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), eight Senators addressed a letter to the President asking for answers to questions about a plan that would allow DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano to provide an amnesty if they can't secure enough votes for a bill in the Senate.

The letter that was sent to Pres. Obama earlier today asks the President for clarification on the use of deferred action or parole for illegal aliens. The executive actions are typically used in special cases and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but if 60 votes can't be secured in the Senate to pass a mass Amnesty, the Administration may use the discretionary actions as an alternative.

Blanket amnesty for millions of illegal aliens would qualify as an obvious abuse of power by the Obama Administration and in my opinion, also qualify as a clear and present danger to U.S. sovereignty. Would such an executive order amount to treason by President Obama?

I'm sure President Kick-Ass will have his attorneys and sycophants claim that that he has the authority to issue pardons and parole, but that power was never, never intended to be used to grant millions of criminal aliens citizenship in direct contravention of U.S. law.

Michelle Malkin has more on this travesty, and her comment thread on this topic is worth reading.

We are saddled with a President who cares far more about the freedoms of criminal aliens, drug smugglers and terrorists than he does the rights of the American people.

I just don't see this nation surviving until January 20, 2013 with this duplicitous, dangerous man in the White House.

Obama Continues Effort to Wreck The Gulf

Oil from the Deepwater Horizon drilling disaster is threatening the estuary marshes and wetlands of the Mississippi delta, potentially destroying the vital nurseries of hundreds or thousands of species, including commercially and recreationally important species of fish, shellfish, and waterfowl. Louisiana has taken matters into their own hands, creating sand barriers to slow or stop the oil's intrusion.

The Obama government's response? Sabotage.

The federal government is shutting down the dredging that was being done to create protective sand berms in the Gulf of Mexico.

The berms are meant to protect the Louisiana coastline from oil. But the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department has concerns about where the dredging is being done.

Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, who was one of the most vocal advocates of the dredging plan, has sent a letter to President Barack Obama, pleading for the work to continue.

Nungesser said the government has asked crews to move the dredging site two more miles farther off the coastline.

"Once again, our government resource agencies, which are intended to protect us, are now leaving us vulnerable to the destruction of our coastline and marshes by the impending oil," Nungesser wrote to Obama.

Ideologically-driven pissants and list-checking bureaucrats led by the wimp in the White House have done nothing to help the Gulf coastal states, and have thrown up a series of absurd roadblocks that not only threaten to create billions of dollars in economic losses, but may kill entire ecosystems.

The Obama Administration continues to impede emergency efforts for the most absurd reasons.

We must ask the obvious question: is the White House purposefully sabotaging emergency efforts to save vital wetlands in order to serve a radical political agenda? Does Obama really think that wrecking rescue efforts to save coastal communities and delicate ecosystems actually makes his cap-and-trade fantasy more palatable?

Mexican Cartels Threaten U.S. Cops

While Obama dithers and panders, the drug lords smell weakness and openly threaten American police:

Police officers in a small Arizona border city are on heightened alert following a tip that a Mexican drug cartel will put them in its crosshairs if they conduct off-duty busts.

The threat stems from a marijuana seizure made this month by two off-duty police officers riding on horseback in an unincorporated area east of Nogales, a city of roughly 20,000, Police Chief Jeffrey Kirkham told FoxNews.com.

"The word was that these particular officers would be targeted if they were ever in that area again and were not on duty and intercepted any drug trafficking," Kirkham said. "It said they should look the other way."

The unidentified officers were able to confiscate roughly 400 pounds of marijuana during the seizure in early June at a known smuggling corridor along the U.S.-Mexican border where there is "relatively no fencing," Kirkham said. No arrests were made, and the smugglers were able to retreat into Mexico.

These police officers did more off duty to protect this nation and our children from drugs than President Obama has ever has on the job. As a result of the Obama Administration pandering to illegal aliens in hopes of converting them to Democratic voters, law enforcement officers on the border are forced to go armed at all times.

The government's continued indifference is a betrayal of the men and women who do they best they can to protect us and our children from violent cartels and the poison they sell.

President Kick-Ass Recalls General For Criticism

Gen. Stanley McChrystal has been recalled to Washington DC by President Barack Obama after McChrystal apologized for an interview that he did with Rolling Stone.

In the interview, McChrystal and his staff rip into his bosses including Ambassador Karl Eikenberry, Obama envoy Richard Holbrooke, National Security Adviser Jim Jones, Vice President Joe Biden, and then committed the cardinal sin of insulting Barack Obama, calling him "unprepared" for their meeting, which McChrystal dismissed as a ten-minute photo op.

The simple fact of the matter is that McChrystal may be 100% accurate in his criticisms—and he probably is—but I don't think that the role of Commander in Chief can allow such commentary. It isn't insubordination, but it does popularize a rift between military commanders and their civilian boss that takes away from the appearance of a united front. It should end his command... but can Obama afford to let him go, freeing him to become even more open in his criticism of the Administration's ineptitude?

Perhaps McChrystal has simply had it with a bunch of incompetents above him and wants to go out on his own terms, telling it like it is.

You have to wonder... was this really a mistake, or was it a surgical strike designed to elicit a prescribed response? I'll be watching this story with great interest in hopes of finding out.

I'll Take Your Worse-Case Scenario, and Raise It To Eleventy

So if this is correct, the pressure from the Deepwater Horizon gusher will defeat all conventional attempts to plug the well, because the walls of the well have been fatally compromised. If we manage to cap the well at or below the seafloor, the pressure will simply blow out the sides of the well below it, finding fissures (or creating them) in the seafloor, before creating countless seeps and blowouts for miles around.

If these experts are right the well cannot be capped. The best we can hope for is to capture as much of the oil as possible and keep the environmental damage minimized while a deep kill is attempted with the relief well underway. If the relief well fails...

Why you should be pissed off:
If the folks at The Oil Drum are correct with their hypothesis, the failed blowout preventer (BOP) and casing pipes are collapsing, BP knows they are collapsing, the government knows about it as well, and they are all conspiring to keep us in the dark.

So what is it that the Obama Administration is trying to hide?

When enough is eroded away the casings will buckle and the BOP will collapse the well. If and when you begin to see oil and gas coming up around the well area from under the BOP? or the area around the well head connection and casing sinking more and more rapidly? ...it won't be too long after that the entire system fails. BP must be aware of this, they are mapping the sea floor sonically and that is not a mere exercise. Our Gov't must be well aware too, they just are not telling us.

All of these things lead to only one place, a fully wide open well bore directly to the oil deposit...after that, it goes into the realm of "the worst things you can think of" The well may come completely apart as the inner liners fail. There is still a very long drill string in the well, that could literally come flying out...as I said...all the worst things you can think of are a possibility, but the very least damaging outcome as bad as it is, is that we are stuck with a wide open gusher blowing out 150,000 barrels a day of raw oil or more. There isn't any "cap dome" or any other suck fixer device on earth that exists or could be built that will stop it from gushing out and doing more and more damage to the gulf. While at the same time also doing more damage to the well, making the chance of halting it with a kill from the bottom up less and less likely to work, which as it stands now?....is the only real chance we have left to stop it all.

It's a race now...a race to drill the relief wells and take our last chance at killing this monster before the whole weakened, wore out, blown out, leaking and failing system gives up it's last gasp in a horrific crescendo.

No wonder the President spends his time playing golf, partying with celebrities and generally living it up while he can. Once the public finds out how deeply his government conspired with BP to cover up the extent of the disaster, the American people are going to call for his resignation, if not for his head on a pike.

But as horrific as the scenario painted for us by this group of experts may be, there is one possible scenario even more cataclysmic, a methane eruption wilder than any nightmare Roland Emmerich could dream up.

Quite frankly the magnitude of what Terrence Aym suggests is possible isn't believable. It isn't because he's necessarily wrong, but because what he suggests could occur is so horrific that we can't allow ourselves to consider the possibility.

According to Aym, geologists report that there is a massive lake of methane gas trapped deep under the well at an incredible pressure of 100,000 psi. As the oil rushes out and weakens the seafloor, a collapse could cause a blowout of super-pressurized methane.

If the huge methane bubble breaches the seabed, it will erupt with an explosive fury similar to that experienced during the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens in the Pacific Northwest. A gas gusher will surge upwards through miles of ancient sedimentary rock—layer after layer—past the oil reservoir. It will explode upwards propelled by 50 tons psi, burst through the cracks and fissures of the compromised sea floor, and rupture miles of ocean bottom with one titanic explosion.

The burgeoning methane gas cloud will surface, killing everything it touches, and set off a supersonic tsunami with the wave traveling somewhere between 400 to 600 miles per hour...

...A supersonic tsunami would literally sweep away everything from Miami to the panhandle in a matter of minutes. Loss of human life would be virtually instantaneous and measured in the millions. Of course the states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and southern region of Georgia—a state with no Gulf coastline—would also experience tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of casualties.

I hope this scenario is far-fetched, but neither is desirable.

All that we can say for certain now is that the well failed, and that it likely failed because corners were cut, warnings were ignored, and rules were ignored or discarded. This applies to the companies involved and the government to which they must answer.

Barack Obama infamously boasted several weeks ago that he met with experts so that he'd know "who's ass to kick" for this disaster. The Obama Administration signed off on the drilling of this well.

There is no way an intelligent political blogger can write this out of ignorance, so we can only surmise Steve Benen means to defraud his readers:

BARBOUR: MORATORIUM WORSE THAN SPILL.... As part of the federal response to the BP oil spill disaster, the administration imposed a six-month moratorium on drilling new deepwater wells. The point, of course, was to prevent another crisis -- Deepwater Horizon had undermined confidence in the industry and its practices. Before companies start new drilling, it's reasonable to make sure the industry's doing it right.

Conservatives, and some regional Democrats, are less than pleased about the six-month pause. Yesterday on "Meet the Press," Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) went so far as to argue that the moratorium is actually worse than the oil spill and its effects on the region. Seriously.

Benen's been busy practicing for the White House beer pong team, or is simply a reliable toady. I'm not sure that it matters which. What matters is that he is shoveling pure propaganda.

It is widespread public knowledge that is isn't Republicans that started griping about this, it was the experts that the Administration consulted and then ignored in order to exploit the crisis for Obama's political agenda:

Then there is Obama's decision to impose a six-month moratorium on deepwater oil drilling in the gulf. This penalizes companies with better safety records than BP's and will result in many advanced drilling rigs being sent to offshore oil fields abroad.

The justification offered was an Interior Department report supposedly "peer reviewed" by "experts identified by the National Academy of Engineering." But it turned out the drafts the experts saw didn't include any recommendation for a moratorium. Eight of the cited experts have said they oppose the moratorium as more economically devastating than the oil spill and "counterproductive" to safety.

This was blatant dishonesty by the administration, on an Orwellian scale. In defense of a policy that has all the earmarks of mindless panic, that penalizes firms and individuals guilty of no wrongdoing and that will worsen rather than improve our energy situation. Ineffective thuggery.

President Kick-Ass can't be bothered to be dragged off the golf course long enough to do much other than attend fundraisers, parties or private concerts, but when addressing a major environmental disaster, he issues soundbites and platitudes. He exhibits zero leadership. It turns out he doesn't have any.

Being an ideologue instead of the intellect his allies like to pretend that he is, Obama and his dream team of cloistered stooges instead overrode the considered opinions of experts—and committed fraud to do it—and now purposefully intends to turn the environmental disaster of the Deepwater Horizon spill into an economic and energy disaster as well.

The Obama moratorium was purposefully designed to force rigs to leave the Gulf of Mexico, costing thousands of American jobs and increasing our dependency on foreign oil. The reason? To force Americans into shifting away from oil as a source of energy, purely as an ideological matter.

The unintended side effect? It means that the drilling rigs that remain are older, with fewer safety features. Obama and his whiz kids have created a situation where the likelihood of another environment-wrecking spill is increased because of their political gamesmanship.

Reliable little leaches like Steve Benen can be counted upon to cheer on Obama as he sucks the marrow out of the American economy. For them it is party first, and America a distant second.

"Violent Bob" Etheridge Has History Of Assaulting Questioners

As so often happens when the media finally decides to stop turning a blind eye, the truth begins to leak out:

In the fall of 1996, when Leslie was a senior at Pinecrest High School, he said he met Etheridge at a Pinecrest football game. Etheridge - then the state superintendent of public instruction - was challenging incumbent Republican David Funderburk for his congressional seat. At the time, Moore County was part of the 2nd District, which Etheridge now represents.

Leslie said he introduced himself to Etheridge and asked him about his stance on a particular education program. He said Etheridge didn't answer his question, so he pressed him two more times.

"And that's when he grabbed me by the shoulders, he shook me, and I'll never forget it, he said, 'Son, you need to learn to respect your elders,'" he said by phone on Wednesday. "I was just so taken aback, I think my jaw just dropped, and he walked off."

It seems Bob Etheridge has felt he was too good to answer questions for a very long time, and that he is prone to letting his temper get the best of him.

Do we really want or need that kind of representation in the Second Congressional District, when our other option is a nurse that wants to repeal Obamacare and replace it with a health care plan that works?

Good News: Air Force Loses 17 Afghan Airmen on U.S. Soil

The good news? They started "losing" them two years, but they haven't lost any more for a full three months:

A nationwide alert has been issued for 17 members of the Afghan military who have gone AWOL from a Texas Air Force base where foreign military officers who are training to become pilots are taught English, FoxNews.com has learned.

The Afghan officers and enlisted men have security badges that give them access to secure U.S. defense installations, according to the lookout bulletin, "Afghan Military Deserters in CONUS [Continental U.S.]," issued by Naval Criminal Investigative Service in Dallas, and obtained by FoxNews.com.

The Afghans were attending the Defense Language Institute at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. The DLI program teaches English to military pilot candidates and other air force prospects from foreign countries allied with the U.S.

17 partially or fully training pilots from the land of the Taliban and al Qaeda have been brought to the United States to further their training, and have been lost by the authorities over the past two years, and we're just now hearing about it? Yeah, that makes sense.

It's not like that has ever ended badly before.

The spin they are trying to cast on this SNAFU is is that they think the the disappearing Afghans are merely trying to escape to a better way of life, and that they do not have intentions of using their training and military security badges to commit terrorism. I sure hope they are right.

As for why the program has continued without better security since these airmen started going AWOL, there doesn't seem to be an immediate answer, and I don't know if there is one.

Climate Change "Consensus" Faked

Why, this can't be true, can it?

The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change misled the press and public into believing that thousands of scientists backed its claims on manmade global warming, according to Mike Hulme, a prominent climate scientist and IPCC insider. The actual number of scientists who backed that claim was "only a few dozen experts," he states in a paper for Progress in Physical Geography, co-authored with student Martin Mahony.

So "settled science" of global warming=24 cultists (more or less) desperate for grant money, corrupt governments (including our own Congress and President) angling to use fear to establish more power and control, and a raft of gullible greens willing to buy any fable fed to them.

Did I miss anything?

"Language Expert" Tries to Excuse Obama's Sub-Par Address

Paul J.J. Payack, president of Global Language Monitor, says that Barack Obama's Oval office speech that was panned by virtually everyone didn't fail because it lacked substance, direction, or leadership, but because it sounded too "professorial" for us uneducated hicks:

President Obama's speech on the gulf oil disaster may have gone over the heads of many in his audience, according to an analysis of the 18-minute talk released Wednesday.

Tuesday night's speech from the Oval Office of the White House was written to a 9.8 grade level, said Paul J.J. Payack, president of Global Language Monitor. The Austin, Texas-based company analyzes and catalogues trends in word usage and word choice and their impact on culture.

Though the president used slightly less than four sentences per paragraph, his 19.8 words per sentence "added some difficulty for his target audience," Payack said.

He singled out this sentence from Obama as unfortunate: "That is why just after the rig sank, I assembled a team of our nation's best scientists and engineers to tackle this challenge -- a team led by Dr. Steven Chu, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist and our nation's secretary of energy."

I would have pointed out that the real problem in that sentence was that President Obama appointed a physicist to handle a problem best addressed by geologists, but then, I'm not looking to excuse the President's abysmal performance in this disaster.

[Of course, you dimwits won't understand that sentence, either. It has a grade level of 11 on Flesch-Kincaid and uses 41 words, which is far more complex than the President's speech that us public folks just can't understand.]

Eighth Tarheel Terror Suspect Captured in Kosovo

Still one to go:

Kosovo police on Thursday arrested an ethnic Albanian man suspected of having supported a planned terrorist attack in North Carolina, they said Thursday.

Bajram Asllani, 29, a native of Mitrovico, Kosovo, was arrested following an extradition request from the United States, police said. He faces charges of providing material support to terrorists and conspiracy to kill, kidnap, maim or injure persons.

An April 19 criminal complaint unsealed Thursday alleges that Asllani conspired with eight men charged last July with plotting a series of terrorist attacks overseas and securing weapons and training in North Carolina.

Seven suspects – Daniel Patrick Boyd, 39, his sons, Dylan Boyd, 22, and Zakariya "Zak" Boyd, 20, and Hysen Sherifi, 24, Mohammad Omar Aly Hassan, 22, Ziyad Yaghi, 21, and Anes Subasic, 33 – are being held in the U.S. An eighth suspect, Jude Kenan Mohammad, 20, is believed to be in Pakistan.

El Paso PD Latest to Up-Gun to M4 Carbines

As always, I have mixed feeling about this:

The El Paso Police Department on Wednesday unveiled its new M-4 rifles intended to provide every officer with greater firepower.

The department bought 1,145 after approval by the City Council's 8-0 vote in January.

Training with the M-4 is under way at the Police Academy, and the new weaponry will eventually be issued to every member of the department, from patrol officers up to the chief.

"It's a safety issue," said Sgt. Lawrence Lujan, an instructor at the academy. "The El Paso Police Department is catching up with the rest of the nation."

No good person wants those who protect us to be at the mercy of criminals with superior weapons. As a result, there has been relatively little public outcry as more and more law enforcement agencies around the nation give rifles to officers on patrol.

Arming officers with carbines in areas where criminal gangs are known to favor assault rifles makes sense on one level. Officers equipped with sidearms stand very little chance in an encounter with criminals armed with assault rifles. Issuing AR carbines gives officers equivalent standoff range and weapon capacity, and the choice of the .223 caliber means that the rifle is less likely to over-penetrate targets or materials beyond the target in event of a miss, and the likelihood of a fatal wound to bystanders dissipates comparatively quickly when compared to other rifle calibers.

At the same time, there are always questions about the training and maintenance of skills when agencies deploy a new weapon, and whether or not training standards will send officers into the streets armed with weapons perhaps better left to tactical units.

By they way, America, thank you for buying these firearms for El Paso. The $773,000 cost of the weapons was paid for with stimulus funds.

Liberal College Professor Collects Another Murder Charge

This time, the murder of her 18-year-old brother in 1986.

Amy Bishop has been charged with murder for the 1986 shotgun slaying of her 18-year-old brother in their Braintree home, according to Norfolk District Attorney William R. Keating.

"The grand jury has indicted Amy Bishop for murder in the first degree,'" Keating told reporters today."Here in Massachusetts, we had evidence of a murder. We proceeded with that, as we should have."

Bishop is the Obama-worshiping fanatic professor that gunned down six of her her fellow professors at the University of Alabama - Huntsville months after she was denied tenure. Three of her victims died.

Beyond Petroleum

Like most of America, I had something better to do with my time last night than watch Barack Obama's flailing Oval Office address.

A few masochists tuned in to watch the President attempt to spin or explain the failure of his administration to provide anything like leadership on day 57 of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. It did not go well.

Even his most sycophantic apologists—Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann—ripped the President. Olbermann said, "It was a great speech if you were on another planet for the last 57 days." Matthews compared Obama to the most ineffective President of the 20th century, Jimmy Carter. Even faithful toady Eugene Robinson was forced to admit it was a failure.

Though his supporters are not yet ready to admit it, Obama's utter inability to lead is symptomatic of America's greatest ever experiment with the Peter Principle.

Barack Obama wasn't completely horrible at community organizing, and so became a state senator. He wasn't completely incompetent at that (even though he was laughed at by his peers on more than one occasion), and became a candidate for U.S. senator. He won his race because his original Republican opponent, Jack Ryan, was even more incompetent, and had to withdraw from the race he would have easily won because of a sex scandal. Obama was a completely unmemorable and undistinguished U.S. senator, and won the Presidency because his Democratic primary opponents and Republican doormat of a challenger were even more incompetent than he was. Oh... and because he promised "change."

Well, we asked for change, and we got it.

Like them or loathe them, All the previous Presidents of my lifetime (with the exception of Carter) have been able to project a veneer of competence in the Oval Office. I haven't always agreed with them and was sometimes outraged by their positions, but be they Democrat or Republican, I never doubted that they were leaders.

There is no leadership available to be harvested in the character of Barack Obama. He is from time-to-time a brilliant orator. He can excite a crowd and inspire them. He has the capacity, when he has the inspiration, to be a great cheerleader for a cause. But with every photo-opportunity, tightly choreographed public appearance, and perplexing hesitancy to act, more and more Americans are awakening to the horrifying fact that the man we elected to lead our nation for four years does not have it within his character to lead anything.

Sadly, we did this to him, and to our nation.

At no point in his life had Barack Obama ever show signs of competent executive experience. The one attempt he made to lead prior to the Presidency was an experimental school program that ended in abject failure after wasting tens of millions of dollars. Was it really fair of the American people to expect for him to succeed at the most important executive position on this planet with no prior experience of note on record?

Granted, the fault does not lie entirely with us.

The same ideological cheerleaders and pundits in the media that are now tearing down Barack Obama can only do so because they built him up and sold him to the American people in the first place. They created him not because of who he was or what he could do, but because of the opportunity he represented for them to feel better about themselves. The media created the myth of Barack Obama and protected their creation fiercely. They savaged or silenced those who asked inconvenient questions about his qualifications and experience, or utterly ignored to entertain the possibility that he was anything less than their progressive messiah.

Poor Barack Obama.

His erstwhile allies built him up to impossible heights, feeding his already substantial ego, telling him he was not just the best man for the job, but perhaps the best man for the job in recent memory. How easily that construct collapses. A hole a mile below the seafloor billowing oil has corrupted both the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the carefully crafted illusion of the President's competency as a leader.

Soon the same new critics of the President will "discover" that the man they supported for so long and who has failed as a leader during this environmental disaster has failed to deliver on his other promises as well. He has pushed his allies for a radical agenda but not put his own neck on the line for them, meaning they absorb the brunt of the public's ire, threatening the Democratic majority in both houses of Congress. Obama has adopted many of the practical policies of his predecessor that the media spent eight years attempting to destroy, forcing them into uncomfortable and hypocritical silences.

The media made him by sheltering Barack Obama and creating a towering myth around him, but such appreciative mythology does not come without expectations, or a price. Out of a sense of self preservation his biggest champions are well on their way to becoming Barack Obama's greatest critics.

They have now begun pointing out the inadequacies of his Administration and his failures of leadership in dealing with the complexities of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

There will be no lower limit to his fall from grace once the media and his other Democratic allies reveal that his incompetence ranges far beyond just this one disaster.

Sometimes You Feel Like a Nut...

Sometimes, you don't:

Imagine, if you will, that you're a normal person and then one day a quasi-famous mentally ill blogger becomes fixated on you the way Gollum was fixated on the Ring. Even though she hasn't been setting the world on fire lately, she has been on TV, on the Howard Stern show and she's written for the New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, & The Washington Times. Most people in the know realize she's off her rocker, but how many people are in the know? How many fans does she have who don't realize what she's really like?

So this person, this quasi-famous mentally ill blogger, starts claiming you support death threats against her. She tells people you're an anti-Semite. She calls your job and tries to get you fired. When she hears of people connected with you, she tries to contact them to lie about you. When people mention your name on the web, she shows up to tell untrue stories about you. Then, she starts going after your friends. She accuses them of supporting death threats against her and being anti-Semitic for being associated with you.

You tried ignoring her. It didn't work. You tried sincerely apologizing for offending her. Not only did it fail, she misrepresented what you apologized for in an effort to try to use it against you. Since she was a lawyer, you even eventually tried filing a complaint with the Michigan Bar, trying to get them to keep her from obsessively harassing/cyber stalking you; it didn't work. You hoped, over time, the obsession with you might fade. However, four years have gone by and it's still going as strong as it was in the beginning.

This, my friends, is not a rhetorical discussion. The victim here is named Emily Zanotti. The quasi-famous mentally ill blogger I'm speaking of is Debbie Schlussel.

John Hawkins goes on to paint a picture of a blogger unable to separate criticism of her blog entries from criticism of her as a person.

When you encounter a person like this and point out errors of logical and substance in something they write, they take that as personally as if you had personally insulted their intelligence. Combine that with a personality that has an ego that can never admit to failure, and you have the recipe for a very angry person with a huge chip on their shoulder who can never let go of a grudge.

I feel pity for a person so insecure and vindictive that their lives seem to revolve around creating enemies and maintaining vendettas. Harboring that kind of perpetual anger would be exhausting... wouldn't you think?

Debbie Schlussel's bizarre behavior is hardly a secret in the blogosphere but I've typically ignored it, simply because such people are generally better left ignored to rant and wail into the darkness.

That said, I understand John's desire to set the record straight and let the sun shine on hate calculated to hurt and smear others. Debbie Schlussel seems intent on trying to become a bully.

I think she's picked the wrong opponents.

Arrest Bob Etheridge

Arrogant, entitled liberal Democrat Bob Etheridge assaulted a man in broad daylight in front of witnesses on a Washington, DC street, in an encounter that was captured on two cell phone cameras and broadcast around the world.

The attack was indefensible, by Etheridge's own admission.

The Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department needs to launch a full and immediate investigation of this incident. Chief of Police Cathy L. Lanier has a responsibility to protect people in her city from all criminal behavior, even that committed by Democratic Congressmen.

Update: A protest against Etheridge by his constituents is scheduled for tomorrow in Raleigh.

Arizona Seeks to Pass Law Denying Citizenship to Illegal's "Anchor Babies"

Quite frankly, it makes perfect sense.

A proposed Arizona law would deny birth certificates to children born in the United States to illegal immigrant parents.

The bill comes on the heels of Arizona passing the nation's toughest immigration law.

John Kavanagh, a Republican state representative from Arizona who supports the proposed law aimed at so-called "anchor babies," said that the concept does not conflict with the U.S. Constitution.

"If you go back to the original intent of the drafters ... it was never intended to bestow citizenship upon (illegal) aliens," said Kavanagh, who also supported Senate Bill 1070 -- the law that gave Arizona authorities expanded immigration enforcement powers.

The proposed law is sure to draw howls of protest from the Mexico and the American left, both of which will ferociously fight the law and claim it is unconstitutional.

But is it? Does the law really conflict with the intent of the Founders?

I'd be very interested to see any evidence that our Founding Fathers has any intention of giving citizenship to the children of criminals that sneak into our nation to give birth and siphon monies and services that should be providing care for American citizens that are in need.

Critics of the law are certain to point out the text of the 14th Amendment, which reads in part:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Any honest person will be forced to admit that the context of the Amendment was to make sure that slaves freed after the end of the U.S. Civil War and their children could not be denied citizenship. It was never intended to allow criminal aliens to gain a contrived legal foothold to stay in this nation.

While Democrats and other supporters of criminal immigrants like to claim that Arizona's proposed law is unconstitutional, the simply fact is that the specific constitutionality of such a direct and targeted law has never come before the Supreme Court.

If Arizona passes this law, I fully expect that liberals will scream and wail. What will be very interesting to watch is how fast and far they are willing to push with court challenges to test the law.

"Violent Bob" Etheridge On the Way Out of Congress?

Bob Etheridge's assault of a student reporter last week went viral this morning when the videos went out on Brietbart.com and BigGovernment.com. Frankly, the thug should resign for his behavior, but that requires more honor than I think he retains.

It remains to be seen if his victims will press charges.

Even if Etheridge doesn't have the decency or sense of shame to resign, disgust at his assault has led to a huge increase in donations for his Republican challenger, nurse Renee Ellmer, in a district that leans conservative.

Etheridge was supposed to be a lock in November. Now it appears he's just as likely to be locked up.

How Should We Treat a President That Pathologically Lies?

President Obama's preposterous claim was such a bald faced-lie that I'm not sure how Lori Montgomery managed to get past the first paragraph of her article without collapsing from laughter:

President Obama urged reluctant lawmakers Saturday to quickly approve nearly $50 billion in emergency aid to state and local governments, saying the money is needed to avoid "massive layoffs of teachers, police and firefighters" and to support the still-fragile economic recovery.

It was a load of crap when Obama made this exact same claim in October of 2009, a load of crap when House made the same claim in December of 2009, it is a load of crap now, and will be a load of crap in six months or a year when he asks for billions yet again.

Barack Obama has not saved the jobs of teachers, police and firefighters; he's saved the jobs of mid-level politicos, inefficient bureaucrats, and blustery, blundering public-sector stooges.

The current bureaucrat bailout is a stop-gap measure to preserve—for purely political reasons—the size and scope of government, to add to the size of government, and to keep our increasingly fictional unemployment figures from spiraling into the earth.

Despite wasting billions of taxpayer dollars, the Democratic Party has done nothing to help the economy. We shouldn't be too hard on them, however; you can't expect them to be able to help the economy, because liberals don't understand basic economic principles. Their buggered thinking tells them that more and bigger government solves problems, and they are simply not wired to understand that the massive tax liabilities and and billion-dollar mandates are detrimental to economic growth.

Telling a Democrat to pass more legislation to help the economy is like telling a lamprey to suck harder to help the fish. The parasites will do everything they can to work harder, but the simple fact of the matter is they are not built to help. They are build to suck the life out of their hosts.

Teachers, firefights and police officers are vital public servants. Their jobs are secure, and we all know it.

Barack Obama lies about the real purpose of this bill—funding useless bureaucrats—because he knows you will not tolerate such waste. He can't help himself, though.

Parasites are parasites by nature, and it is useless to expect them to change.

Some of the students in the class had questions for the senior-most instructor on whether or thought we needed more rigid training and competency standards to acquire a concealed handgun permit in North Carolina.

How do we balance our right to arms with the responsibility of employing them?

Area Woman Mauled by Small Furry Creature

The Carolina fox jihad continues:

Dorothy Holland said Friday that she was planting flowers barefoot in the back yard of her Holly Springs home when the animal attacked her for what she thought was about five to 10 minutes.

A neighbor responding to her screams for help managed to scare the fox behind a building, where another neighbor shot it twice.

"I thought I was going to die," Holland said. "I thought this was my last day."

Holland suffered numerous wounds to her feet and has a serious infection in her left foot that has her hospitalized at WakeMed in Cary.

She said she believes she wouldn't have survived had it not been for her neighbors.

Hey... Talon Thomas can't be everywhere.

Captain Kick-ass Deceives About Drilling Moratorium

The seven experts who advised President Obama on how to deal with offshore drilling safety after the Deepwater Horizon explosion are accusing his administration of misrepresenting their views to make it appear that they supported a six-month drilling moratorium -- something they actually oppose.

The experts, recommended by the National Academy of Engineering, say Interior Secretary Ken Salazar modified their report last month, after they signed it, to include two paragraphs calling for the moratorium on existing drilling and new permits.

In plain English, Salazar committed fraud, and no doubt at the request of the White House.

The Administration insists it did nothing wrong, even as it commits fraud and threatens the economies of already battered Gulf states.

Obama knows cap-and-trade is a dead issue, and had the "temporary" moratorium placed with the idea of driving oil rigs out of the Gulf.

...because the floating rigs are scarce and in high demand worldwide, they will not simply sit in the Gulf idle for six months. The rigs will go to the North Sea and West Africa, possibly preventing the U.S. from being able to resume drilling for years.

They said the best and most advanced rigs will be the first to go, leaving the U.S. with the older and potentially less safe rights operating in the nation's coastal waters.

Obama intends to force the price of oil up (further impacting the economy) and subject our coastlines to an even greater threat of ecological disaster for purely political reasons.

Beastly Thoughts

Is Tina Brown trying to say that in her little world, women aren't women if they don't share her views?

Former New Yorker editor Tina Brown appeared on Thursday's Good Morning America to deride the mostly Republican women who won primaries on Tuesday as "wingnuts" and to sneer that they represent a "blow to feminism."

GMA's "Morning Mix" segment featured Brown and journalist Catherine Crier, part of a panel that usually includes reporters agreeing with each other over liberal talking points. After Stephanopoulos recited the numerous women who won nominations on June 8, the current Daily Beast editor dismissed, "...The only trouble with this one is, it almost feels as if all these women winning are kind of a blow to feminism."

I'd really like to hear Brown expound upon why she thinks that the success of conservative women is a blow to feminism.

I rather suspect she means it is a blow to the contrived and utterly useless liberal feminist ideology of victimhood... it certainly isn't a blow to equality.

And isn't equality what real feminists desire?

Update: Cassy Chesser calls Brown and her co-conspirators "fascist feminists." I think her label is probably dead-on.

Bush-Hating Lefty Assaults Tea Party Protestors

Fox8 has the details:

A protest in Greensboro turned violent Tuesday when a former candidate for Congress and NC Senate was punched in the face.

Nathan Tabor, a business owner and head of the Forsyth County Republican Party and a former candidate for public office, says he and 25 other people were protesting government bailouts in front of Rep. Mel Watt's (D-N.C.) Greensboro office on Tuesday.

"We were just there to do our constitutional right to have a peaceful protest." Tabor said.

Tabor says they were protesting a proposed amendment that would give companies money to help with rising credit card fees. He says he was videotaping the event when Govenor Spencer, of Greensboro, approached the protest.

"About that time a gentleman walks around the corner and walks into the middle of the crowd saying it's all George W. Bush's fault. It's all Dick Cheney's fault." Tabor said.

The video shows Spencer and at least one protester arguing. Tabor says he stopped recording as the protest began to conclude and walked over to the sidewalk where his wife and 5-year-old daughter were standing.

"As I walked around the corner this gentleman pushed me. And when he pushed me the first time I turned my camera on and brought my camera up. I said please don't push me. And when I said that he slapped my camera." Tabor said. "He pushes me again. In the video you can see my body fall back. And I did not say anything to him, I didn't engage him. I was going to, until he touched me wife."

Tabor says Spencer pushed his wife and he pushed Spencer back. The video shows Spencer then punching Tabor in the face.

Once again, video shows political violence from the left, and the dying liberal media ignores it.

Update: Gateway Pundit Jim Hoft notes that the assailant "is a union organizer, a socialist and a black liberation activist."

He also noted Spencer's car sported a Black Liberation Army sticker. for those of you who aren't familiar with the group, they were a militant Marxist organization that committed bombings, robberies and prison breaks.

If that sounds a bit like like the behavior of Barack Obama's mentors Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn it should; the Weather Underground and BLA worked together in the Brinks Roberry in Nyack New York that gunned down cops and security guards. Dohrn actually did some jail time for her refusal to help in the case, and she was rumored to be a co-conspirator.

It should probably be mentioned that this was going on while Ayers and Dohrn were in Manhattan while a young Barack Obama was at Columbia, attending many of the same protests.

Lesson: Don't Attack a Kid Named "Talon," Even If You Are a Carnivore

Talon Thomas is one tough kid:

An 11-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man say they were attacked this week by foxes in southern Moore County.

The attacks happened near the intersection of Sycamore Street and Midway Road in Aberdeen.

Talon Thomas, 11, said he was bitten and scratched by the fox while walking home from school Tuesday.

"He bit me on my leg, and then I just picked him up, and I just hit his head against the road and he started kicking me in my head," he said.

Talon said he kept the fox pinned down and tried to keep him quiet so he wouldn't alert other foxes.

"He kept kicking his legs up and I thought his whole family was going to come after me," he said.

Talon caught the fox and took him to his parents. It's not yet known if the fox was rabid but Talon received a series of rabies shots as a precaution.

Read the first sentence of the last paragraph again.

I guess you should also read the part where he decided to pick the fox up when he was attacked, and slammed his head against the road.

Most people attacked by a toothy, clawed carnivore, would attempt to escape the area.

He's No Innocent

Remember the Mexican teen that was shot earlier in the week by a U.S. Border Patrol Officer trying to make an arrest? It turns out he a known human smuggler and on a Border Patrol Most Wanted list.

I find myself having less and less sympathy for Sergio Adrian Hernandez Huereka and his family, which apparently profits from human smuggling... and who knows what else.

Does his criminal past justify his death? Of course not. Whether his assault on a federal law enforcement officer justified his shooting is a matter for authorities.

How Fed Up Are Some Americans With Mexico? Very.

Polls have showed strong support for Arizona's immigration law even in blue states, but I was under the apparent delusion that people were drawing a distinction between illegal aliens from Mexico in the United States and Mexicans in Mexico.

If the commenters responding to this Yahoo! News account of a Mexican teenager begin shot to death by a U.S. Border Patrol Officer are any indication, I was way, way off.

Scanning through the first two pages of comments (which now number more than 1,200), it seems that many Americans have had it with Mexicans, period. Deluged with a constant stream of news about drug cartel torture, rape and murder, illegal immigration, and a hypocritical Mexican government that champions illegal immigration of the U.S. while violent crushing it on their own southern border, it isn't hard to understand their negative opinions. Our most common recent perceptions of our southern neighbor aren't flattering (to put it mildly), and Mexico has directly brought that negative attention onto itself.

Many commenters seem to care less whether or not the shooting was legally justified, and some seemed actually thrilled that the teen was dead. That Mexican authorities may have been captured on video crossing the border into the U.S. to retrieve the shell casing—perhaps to try to frame the U.S. officer as being inside Mexico by placing the casing on their side of the border—certainly doesn't help issues.

The incompetence of the Mexican government to handle corruption and criminality along the border has led to "corrective action" before.

The Mexicans need to get their house in order before a 21st Century America determines another punitive expedition is in order, and finds their own Patton to to cheer.

Durbin Creates "Bailout" for BP, Walmart, Etc.

Politics is a dirty business... we all know it.

That understood, there are practical limits to what the American people can stand, and Illinois Senator Dick Durblin seems to have jumped far over that line, listening to lobbyists who want to shift the cost of credit card transactions directly to the consumer:

The Durbin amendment imposes a price control scheme on the fees oil companies and retailers pay when they accept payment by credit cards. The amendment was conceived and pushed for by lobbyists for big oil companies and big retailers like BP and Wal-Mart. Their goal is simple — shift the costs of accepting credit cards from their bottom line to the consumers.

Durbin admitted that he offered the amendment after detailed discussions with a big retailer CEO. The bottom line is that the Durbin amendment will put billions of dollars into the pockets of Wal-Mart, big oil companies like BP and other big box retailers who depend on consumers and their credit cards for revenue. It's unfathomable that while the government has opened a criminal investigation into BP, the US Senate wants to hand them a massive check. Under the Durbin "BP Bailout" amendment, giant corporations will no longer be required to pay their fair share of the costs of receiving these services. Consumers will now pay those costs.

Democrats have long tried to claim the mantle of the "party of the people," but they have the problem of being as deep or deeper in debt than Republicans to big business interests, corporations and especially unions. Durbin's amendment is nothing more or less than an attempt to push the cost of doing business from the corporation to the consumer.

I wonder how much he cost.

An op-ed in the Wall Street Journal discusses the results of a poll of 4,835 adults that shows that the more liberal/progressive your politics are, the less you are able to square your belief system with a basic grasp of economic principals.

Doesn't watching our 535 Senators and Congresspeople on Capitol Hill, plus the cluelessness of the executive branch, prove the exact same thing with theri all-too-real impact on our actual economy?

Good News: Birther Could Wreck California GOP Ticket

Oh, Orly Taitz, why won't you just go back to Poland:

Orly Taitz is an Israeli émigré who has spent the past two years filing lawsuits challenging President Barack Obama's right to be president on the grounds that he was born in Kenya. In the process, she has earned herself $20,000 in court fines.

Now she's running for the GOP nomination for secretary of state, and with her establishment-backed primary opponent mounting a less-than-stellar campaign against her, operatives say there's a chance she could win.

"It'd be a disaster for the Republican party," says James Lacy, a conservative GOP operative in the state. "Can you imagine if [gubernatorial candidate] Meg Whitman and [candidate for Lt. Gov.] Abel Maldonado — both of whom might have a chance to win in November — had to run with Orly Taitz as secretary of state, who would make her cockamamie issues about Obama's birth certificate problems at the forefront of her activities?"

My view of the matter is that if the California GOP can't find a candidate for secretary of state that will beat a crackpot dentist, then they probably deserve to lose.

Reuters: On the side of Terrorists, Once Again

This time, they've been caught cropping a photo so that while you see the Israeli soldier lying wounded on the deck of the Gaza blockade runner Mavi Marmara , you don't see the Turkish mercenary standing over his body with a combat knife.

Reuters employees have a history of supporting terrorism via propaganda. We should not be surprised that they are up to their old tricks.

Brad Manning, I Hope They Hang You High

A disgruntled Army specialist by the name of Brad Manning has been placed under arrest after a former hacker turned him in for bragging about breaching national security, having turned over hundreds of thousands of documents to Wikileaks:

SPC Bradley Manning, 22, of Potomac, Maryland, was stationed at Forward Operating Base Hammer, 40 miles east of Baghdad, where he was arrested nearly two weeks ago by the Army's Criminal Investigation Division. A family member says he's being held in custody in Kuwait, and has not been formally charged.

Manning was turned in late last month by a former computer hacker with whom he spoke online. In the course of their chats, Manning took credit for leaking a headline-making video of a helicopter attack that Wikileaks posted online in April. The video showed a deadly 2007 U.S. helicopter air strike in Baghdad that claimed the lives of several innocent civilians.

He said he also leaked three other items to Wikileaks: a separate video showing the notorious 2009 Garani air strike in Afghanistan that Wikileaks has previously acknowledged is in its possession; a classified Army document evaluating Wikileaks as a security threat, which the site posted in March; and a previously unreported breach consisting of 260,000 classified U.S. diplomatic cables that Manning described as exposing "almost criminal political back dealings."

"Hillary Clinton, and several thousand diplomats around the world are going to have a heart attack when they wake up one morning, and find an entire repository of classified foreign policy is available, in searchable format, to the public," Manning wrote.

In every instance cited above by Manning there are avenues to blow the whistle on corruption and illegality through channels that would bring wrongdoers to justice.

Instead, Manning decided to declare himself arbiter of his own brand of justice, leaking hundreds of thousand of classified documents and and two videos that leftist Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has used to smear the U.s. military. The more famous of these, July 12, 2007 gun camera footage from an Apache attack helicopter firing upon armed Medhi Army militants, has been thoroughly discredited.

I'm not a lawyer, and don't claim to be, but Manning's distribution of classified military and State Department information during an on-going conflict would seem to be the very definition of treason.

I don't know if they still hang spies from treason, but they should. If Brad Manning is guilty of the crimes of which he is accused, he should be executed as soon as his appeals are exhausted.

"He was in a war zone and basically trying to vacuum up as much classified information as he could, and just throwing it up into the air," said the hacker who turned him in, Adrian Lamo. Even worse than committing treason for a cause or for money, Manning apparent did it for kicks.

The Wired article also notes that Manning had "a keen interest in global politics."

Too bad he chose the wrong side.

Turkish Terrorist Autopsies Suggest They Were Shot By Their Own Men

First the spin, then the facts:

Nine Turkish men on board the Mavi Marmara were shot a total of 30 times and five were killed by gunshot wounds to the head, according to the vice-chairman of the Turkish council of forensic medicine, which carried out the autopsies for the Turkish ministry of justice today.

The results revealed that a 60-year-old man, Ibrahim Bilgen, was shot four times in the temple, chest, hip and back. A 19-year-old, named as Fulkan Dogan, who also has US citizenship, was shot five times from less that 45cm, in the face, in the back of the head, twice in the leg and once in the back. Two other men were shot four times, and five of the victims were shot either in the back of the head or in the back, said Yalcin Buyuk, vice-chairman of the council of forensic medicine.

The findings emerged as more survivors gave their accounts of the raids. Ismail Patel, the chairman of Leicester-based pro-Palestinian group Friends of al-Aqsa, who returned to Britain today, told how he witnessed some of the fatal shootings and claimed that Israel had operated a "shoot to kill policy".

He calculated that during the bloodiest part of the assault, Israeli commandos shot one person every minute. One man was fatally shot in the back of the head just two feet in front him and another was shot once between the eyes. He added that as well as the fatally wounded, 48 others were suffering from gunshot wounds and six activists remained missing, suggesting the death toll may increase.

The new information about the manner and intensity of the killings undermines Israel's insistence that its soldiers opened fire only in self defence and in response to attacks by the activists.

Nice try, but no cigar.

Let's get some facts straight, shall we?

Less than a dozen Israeli soldiers armed with paintball guns and sidearms fast-roped to the deck of the Mavi Marmara, where they ran into a buzzsaw of Turkish mercenaries wearing ceramic body armor and armed with metal rods, knives, and yes, firearms. That the lynch mob was armed with guns was confirmed by the ships own captain, who saw them throw overboard as Israeli reinforcements arrived.

Each soldier in the initial boarding party was surrounded upon touch-down, and tackled by groups of Turkish zealots. All told, estimates are that between 60-100 thugs pounced upon the handful of soldiers. Three of the soldiers were severely injured before the last soldier on the helo even hit the deck; two had been shot by the terrorists, and a third soldier had had his head smashed open with a metal rod. Three other soldiers had ben knocked unconscious and dragged below decks in hopes of making them hostages.

A maximum of four soldiers fired killing shots into the lynch mob. We know this because the Israeli Staff Sergeant that was the last soldier on deck killed six of the nine with his sidearm, a Glock pistol. Because of their position, all shots were straight on at close range, into the heads and chests of their charging targets.

But that does not match what we see the Turkish corner's forensics tells us, Indeed he adds quite a bit of new and useful information to the story, that the media can't spin its way out of, no matter how hard they try.

The corner speaks of his mercenary countrymen being shot from behind, in the back and back of the head. Since the Israeli soldiers at this time had been forced back into a single small defensive position as the lynch mob continued to advance with weapons in a frontal rush, this strongly suggests that at least half the rounds that hit Ibrahim Bilgen and Fulkan Dogan were fired by their fellow mercenaries behind them.

The other dead bore similar wounds, with shots to the head from the front (fired by the Israelis) and shots to the back from behind, most likely fired by other terrorists.

We know well from previous encounters in Gaza and Lebanon that Israel's enemies think nothing of killing their own in order to blame the Jews for their deaths.

This is simply the first time that an unwitting coroner on their side has given us medical evidence that those killed died at their countrymen's hands.

Baby Killer Kagan

I don't think any rational person was ever under the delusion that a President as radical as Barack Obama would nominate a moderate for the Supreme Court, so it is no surprise at all that documents have come out proving that Elena Kagan is a flaming liberal.

I just didn't expect Obama to be so out of touch that he would nominate an advocate of fetal murder:

A newly-produced document today from the Clinton archives is the second to show Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan defending ex-President Bill Clinton's veto of a bill to ban partial-birth abortions. The memo, and others, may increase Republican opposition to her nomination.

In one of the documents that comprises the 46,000 pages of material the William J. Clinton Presidential Library released today, Kagan opined on the ban for Clinton as an attorney with the administration's Office of Domestic Policy.

In a February 27, 1997 memo to top White House staff, Kagan referred to the startling admission from Ron Fitzsimmons, at the time the executive director of the National Coalition of Abortion Providers.

The debate then had been on whether the partial-birth abortion procedure was done for health reasons for the mother or essentially on healthy unborn children for elective reasons only.

Leading pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL made claims that flew in the face of medical practice by saying the three-day-long abortion procedure would somehow be able to save a woman's life in a life-threatening medical circumstance.

Fitzsimmons signed on to that mantra but eventually relented, saying he "lied through my teeth" about the statistics and supposed reasons for the abortion procedure.

According to CNN, the new memo showed Kagan advising Clinton, saying it "it would be a great mistake to challenge" Fitzsimmons' statements given how embarrassing they were for abortion advocates...

Douglas Johnson of the National Right to Life Committee eventually told LifeNews.com the Kagan memo likely helped keep partial-birth abortions legal longer.

While it is a purely personal belief, I hold that partial birth abortion, in most cases, amounts to murder.

You cannot tell me this procedure is merely the removal of a mass of cells. It is the murder of an infant, performed by zealots as an act of political defiance and individual selfishness instead of medical necessity in most instances.

I feel a deep and abiding sorrow for the few women each year that must legitimately chose between their lives and the lives of their baby. But this bill was never really about them.

Elena Kagan embraces infanticide as a political statement. No one this radical should ever see the inside of the Supreme Court.

Except, perhaps, as a defendant.

SEIU Thugs Target Red Cross, Threaten Blood Supply

In any sort of threat-focused reality, SEIU bosses would be tracked by Predator drones and union membership lists simply rolled over into terrorist watch lists.

This is just the latest example why.

Is there any low to which the SEIU won't stoop? Now it's interrupting blood donations in a strike against the American Red Cross. The Boy Scouts and Baptist churches are also on unions' enemies list.

Demanding higher wages and better benefits, the Service Employees International Union on Wednesday launched a three-day strike against the Red Cross' blood donation operations. The job action comes as the nonprofit, in a realistic response to the weak economy, is cutting salaries, ending bonuses and reducing pensions.

SEIU thinks its members should not only be exempt from the Red Cross' efforts to live within its means, but actually get a raise.

But it's not about the money, you see. It's really about safety. "Cutting jobs, slashing wages and benefits of employees and cutting corners are affecting the safety of the blood supply," the union's Frank Hornick told the Parkersburg (W.Va.) News & Sentinel.

So SEIU's way to get a safe supply is to pay higher union wages? It's hardly compassion for consumers to hold 40% of the nation's blood supply hostage.

Threatening the blood supply is a threat to this nation's infrastructure, and the ringleaders of this plot should be thrown in jail. People's lives are quite literally at risk.

It's good to know that in such a time of crisis, our nation's leadership will respond to the challenge by focusing all their energy on doing that which is most important... yeah, I'm kidding.

Who Paid the Turkish Terrorists on the Mavi Marmara?

The Jerusalem Post ran an interview today with one of the Israeli soldiers that attempted to search the blockade runner Mavi Marmara as it attempted to breach the join Israeli-Egyptian blockade of the Gaza strip.

The soldier in question was the senior-most noncom on the mission, and the last soldier to fast-rope down to the ship from the helicopter hovering overhead. By the time he hit the deck, two more senior officers had already been shot by Turkish "peace activists" wearing heavy ceramic body armor, and a third officer was severely injured after having his skull crushed with the heavy rods some of the terrorists were using as weapons.

The soldier has the other commandos form a defensive perimeter around their wounded comrades, and when the terrorists pressed their attack, they opened fire to keep from being overrun. The soldier in question killed six of the nine Turkish terrorists killed in the attempted blockade running with his handgun at point-blank range.

When the ship was finally captured and brought into port, the attackers were found to have large sums of money upon them; apparent payment for the pre-planned assault. According to the captain of the Mavi Marmara, the Turks were armed as well, and fired shots at the Israelis. He apparently watched the terrorists throw their weapons over the side of the ship, and forensic teams located shell casings that did not match Israeli weapons.

Turkish terrorists/mercenaries (chose the terminology you like best, as both would seem to apply) were paid substantial amounts of money by someone to stage an international incident, attacking soldiers simply attempting to enforce a blockade of an enemy port where ships loaded with hundreds of tons Iranian weapons had previously attempted to dock.

The question I have is whether or not turkey's increasingly Islamic government had a hand in staging this incident, and if they did, whether they are the kind of "ally" the United States or NATO really needs.

Where are they NOW?

Debrahlee Lorenzana claims that she was harassed almost daily by her managers at Citibank, who apparently thought she was "too hot" and dressed in a manner they found sexually distracting.

A photoshoot arranged by Lorenzana's lawyer claims to show her in some of the apparel she wore to work.

She is certainly an attractive woman who choses to accentuate instead of hide her femininity with her choice of apparel, but her clothes did not seem to be outside the bounds of professional dress for that environment, and her outfits (at least those shown) were certainly more tasteful than some.

My question is simple: where are the feminists?

You might think that groups such as the National Organization for Women (NOW) and similar feminist groups would criticize Citibank for their apparent bias against Lorenzana. After all, equal rights should apply to all people if they are truly equal, and that includes women that are attractive... does it not?

Instead of ridicule of Citibank from so-called feminist blogs, I find mostly silence. The blogs writing about Lorenzana seem to be gossip blogs and business blogs.

Feminist outrage is apparently reserved to protest for the rights of the ugly and unattractive.

Pretty ladies... it seems you are on your own.

Turk Born in America Was One of the Aggressors In Blockade Runner Assault; More Ships Coming

Furkan Dogan was born to Turkish parents and left our country at the age of two, apparently never to return. While technically holding citizenship, he is a birthright American only, an accident of geography and in no obvious way attached our nation's culture. To call him an American is something of a joke.

Dogan was one of the nine Muslim terrorist sympathizers killed as they tried to lynch Israeli soldiers carrying out an inspection of their ship, a ship attempting to run a blockade of Gaza. News accounts claim that Dogan was shot in the head four times and once in the chest. The shot placement and other known conditions of the raid suggests Dogan was attacking Israeli soldiers at point-blank range when he was killed.

Israel and Egypt have maintained a joint sea blockade of Gaza because of legitimate concerns that Iran is attempting to provide the terrorist group Hamas with long-range rockets to destabilize the region and target Israeli civilian population centers. Late last year the MV Francop was intercepted carrying small arms ammunition, rockets, grenades and artillery shells from Iran to Gaza.

The MV Rachel Corrie, a decrepit one-time beer hauler, is part of the next group of ships attempting to run the blockade. Named after a leftist radical and pro-terrorist sympathizer killed by a bulldozer attempting to protect Hamas weapons-smuggling tunnels, the Corrie is thought to be carrying cement, one of the materials that Israel and Egypt do not allow to be imported into Gaza because of concerns that Hamas will use the building material to construct hardened bunkers.

Other materials being carried by the vessel are already in abundance in Gaza, supplied over far more practical land routes.

The Irish-flagged Corrie, like its namesake, isn't providing anything of value to the people of Gaza, and merely provides a small degree of political cover to a genocidal terrorist group.

Update: The Corrie turns around... for now.

Lets Send That Bombing Run to the Replay Official...

The Pentagon's cribbing a play from Monday Night Football, adopting the same instant replay technology used during games to improve analysis of war zone video feeds.

Harris Corporation, the company behind instant replay for professional football and baseball games, has teamed up with the military on an analysis system that’s already been deployed to several bases, reports Live Science.

The system, called Full-Motion Video Asset Management Engine (FAME) uses "metadata" tags to encode important details — time, date, camera location — into each video frame. In a football game, those tags would help broadcasters pick the best clip to re-air, then explain, a play. In a war-zone, they'd help analysts watch video in a richer, easier-to-grasp context. And additional tags could link a video clip to photographs, cell phone calls, databases or documents.

Congressional Black Caucus Members Try To Quash Ethics Office

It seems as if the corrupt don't want to be found out:

Stung by a series of inquiries, nearly half the members of the Congressional Black Caucus want to scale back the aggressive ethics procedures that Democrats trumpeted after gaining control of Congress.

Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, and 19 fellow black lawmakers in the all-Democratic caucus quietly introduced a resolution last week that would restrict the powers of the new independent Office of Congressional Ethics. The office, formed by Congress in 2008, is run by a panel of private citizens.

If I were a prosecutor, the list of co-sponsors for this bill would get more than their fair share of attention. Could they proclaim any louder that they have something to hide?

TIP: If you are going to accuse a government of faking photos of weapons and military material captured during a legal search of the vessel carrying the contraband, you should probably make sure they don't also have video of the ship and the weapons as well.

It Isn't The Gun, But The Cartridge

Granted, the gun itself is in need of at least a piston upper receiver, but the biggest problem with the M4 carbine and M16 rifle seems to be the anemic ballistics of the 5.56 cartridge, which should be replaced.

Back in the Saddle

Sorry for not mentioning I was leaving for a four-day weekend. Was a (more or less) technology-free family weekend at Disney's Magic Kingdom in Orlando, followed by all-too-brief stops at Neptune Beach, FL to visit family and a scouting trip of Jekyll Island, GA.

It seems that during my break a Turkish-flagged group of Islamic terrorist sympathizers tried to murder an Israeli boarding party with edged and blunt weapons and received their just rewards. Frankly, I think the Israelis are screwed when it comes to typically pro-terrorist media coverage of such staged events, but it is better to kill a few terrorists now than have more weaponry added to growing terrorist stockpiles.

It also seems that the top-kill of the Deepwater Horizon spill didn't work. Damn.
